Just when we think we've seen it all, the Bush Administration has drafted regulations that would undermine women's access to birth control.
Under the guise of clarifying existing federal laws that allow health professionals to refuse to provide abortion services, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has drafted regulations that redefine abortion to include commonly used, FDA-approved methods of contraception, such as birth control pills and IUDs.
This radical redefinition of abortion is at odds with science and the government's own definition -- that pregnancy begins with the implantation of a fertilized egg.
This is a shameful political ploy in the waning days of the Bush Administration, which could cause immeasurable harm to the 17 million women in need of publicly funded contraceptive services.
Please sign your letter to Secretary Michael Leavitt today, and urge him to abandon these radical, dangerous regulations.
We signed the “Tell the Bush Administration: Birth Control Pills Are Not Abortion” letter!

Taking away a woman's choice to not conceive is cruel and unusual punishment. There are many instances where a woman's health, and her doctor, mandate not getting pregnant at the risk of her life or good health. To say nothing of a woman's (or couples) right to decide not to have children for reasons of their own. Advances in medicine have made this possible.
One would think that the agenda of reducing abortions would support birth control as an intelligent preventative method. It seems to me an oxymoron to want to reduce the number of abortions and to ban birth control methods.
These regulations make no sense and should NOT be released.

This whole abortion/birth control issue is a blatant disregard for the Constitutional principle of separation of church and state. The people who hold extreme right-to-life and anti-choice viewpoints ALWAYS have the CHOICE to follow their beliefs. THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO DICTATE THE CHOICES AVAILABLE TO OTHERS! Therefore, I insist that you resist any proposal that would restrict a woman's access to contraceptives, especially and specifically, any proposal that seeks to re-define the use of contraceptives as abortion!

Our world wide poplation is astronaomical. Many women will be so poor, with no heat this winter, that they won't be able to rise kids. That Mr. Bush will pay. God sees all of it.

The government has no right to be in my bedroom or in my doctor's office with me! As long as what it's legal, I have the absolute right to choose how I want to live and take care of myself. This includes anything that involves my sexual behavior, which is no one's business but mine and my partner. My government is not welcome!

Access to basic contraception should be a woman's right. Denying it could result in an increase in abortions, illegal marketing of contraception with no quality control and increased hardships to the poor.

Another attempt of males to control the lives and actions of women. What about the men who dump a woman after sex, never calls her, never wants to hear from her again? He is commiting a virtual abortion. He is abandoning that potential baby. I don't hear anybody addressing that issue of "male abortion".
Stop trying to subjugate women. And like the genius USA native George Carlin said: "Not every ejaculation deserves a name".

To take away birth control would mean a jump in pregnancy in adults and teens and the birth of children that could not be properly cared for. The idea is ludacris

No one should have the right to tell me or any woman what to do with her body and her right to choose!
