Thank American Humane for Rescue and Care of Puppy Mill Victims!

For nearly a month, American Humane's Red Star Emergency Services Team
was in Buxton, Maine working with other local and national animal welfare organizations at the site of an unlicensed dog-breeding facility, or puppy mill.
There were 259 dogs seized from the facility as well as several new litters of puppies. Their 82-foot-long Rescue Rig's state-of-the-art surgical unit allowed for quick response to injuries, eliminating the need for painful transport to a distant clinic.
American Humane's Animal Emergency Services Team has contributed to the rescue of countless animals from disasters. They provide care to injured animals, reunite the animals with their families, ensure that animal shelters are sufficient and distribute pet food and supplies.

Unfortunatly, not alot of people realize, that some of the worst puppy miller's are farmers of the Amish/Mennonite faith. Because of their faith, they view animals as objects. And because of the absoulutly ridiculous rumor that the Amish/Mennonites cannot be persecuted by the law,many people know about these awful puppy farms, and DO NOTHING! That is complete BS. Remember, when purchasing ANY live animal,get to know the breeder quite well, make sure the breeder allows you to see the living quarters of the animals, AND REPORT ANY ABUSE. That is the only way, along with laws preventing operations such as puppy mills to continue, we can stop these horrible things from happening. *DISCLAIMER* This does not mean all people of the Amish/Mennonite faith abuse their animals. Thank you for being there for the animals. Laws that are in place must be enforced, the guilty prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. BUT, our laws are not strong enough and the punishment of the guilty is nearly always a slap on the wrist if that much. Please keep working to help the animals.
