Avoid Severe Climate Change in California

Target: Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Sponsored by: Union of Concerned Scientists
The science is clear: the severity of global warming in California depends on our emissions of heat-trapping gas. The more we emit, the worse the impacts. A new analysis co-authored by scientists at Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) projects a dramatic increase in heat waves and heat-related mortality, and significant reductions in Sierra snow pack.

Despite these findings, automakers are expected to file a lawsuit against California's landmark regulations to reduce global warming pollution from cars and light trucks. Please help us convince Governor Schwarzenegger to continue to stand up to automakers and support strong regulations that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from new passenger vehicles 30% by 2016.

Our health and environment depend on it!

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger:

I am concerned about global warming and the threat that resulting climate change poses for California's health, economy, and environment. Consequently, I am writing to thank you for your support of the strong regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from new passenger cars and light trucks recently approved by the California Air Resources Board (ARB). I'd also like to urge you to stand up to the auto companies' attempts to weaken or overturn our states historic decision through expensive litigation.

[Your personal comments here.]

Last month, the case for state action on global warming emissions was bolstered when a new study by 19 internationally acclaimed scientists was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences with disturbing news about the likely impacts of global warming in California. Major findings include a dramatic increase in extreme heat and heat-related mortality and significant reductions in Sierra snow pack. Rising temperatures could not only lead to cascading impacts on water supply, but could also imperil vital sectors of the state's economy.

The Public Policy Institute of California found in July of this year that 81 percent of Californians support the law requiring automakers to reduce global warming emissions from new cars and light trucks. I am one of those who support the proposed regulations, which would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and light trucks by 30% by 2016. I hope you will defend these regulations vigorously and hope you will appeal to the major auto companies to support rather than undermine California's landmark campaign to build cleaner cars and a cleaner California.

Sincerely,

(Your Name)

If the climate in any state is changed it will affect each and every other state in some way. More flooding, drought, high winds and so on. It could drasticly chang our ecosystem in bording states and just keep getting worse.

Please support legislation that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles. We are killing ourselves with our own cars by just breathing what is pumped out the backs of them.

Hey, you were really hot in TRUE LIES. But not as hot as you are going to be if you don't pay as much attention to protecting the environment as you possibly can!

Restore the forest and wetland ecosystems within our state. This will help with the canopy and capture more moisture during the winter seasons. It all itwill help California to rmain cooler.

We already feel the effects of global warming. The question is not "will it come", but "how fast will it get worse and what will be the effects to earth". Vehicle manufacturers are a good place to start the fix ... if a fix at this late point is possible.

It is important that we take action to counteract the negative effects of air pollution for the health and well-being of humans, flora, and fauna. Asthma and other forms of diseases related to a polluted environment are reaching record highs in this country. The key to stopping pollution is to practice conservation and promote ecology awareness. We can reduce the levels of tropospheric ozone, acid rain, and photochemical smog, all of which unfortunately affect the metropolitian areas of California as well as those of other states and countries.

Please uphold California's strong regulations to protect our air and our public health. Do not allow the automobile industry to dismantle our environmental protections!
