Urge Congress to Permanently Protect the Arctic Refuge!

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is home to caribou, snow fox and millions of migratory birds. It is also the most important onshore denning habitat for America's vanishing polar bears.

But this natural treasure is constantly under siege. Time and time again, the oil industry and their allies in Congress have sought to open this special place to harmful new drilling, threatening all of the wildlife that depend on it for survival.

And now President Bush has called for drilling in the Arctic Refuge by 2010 in his new budget proposal!

We need to permanently protect the Arctic Refuge! Urge your Representative to support the Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act (H.R. 39) to permanently protect the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Dear Representative,

As your constituent, I am deeply concerned about the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the treasured wildlife that lives there. That's why I strongly urge you to ensure that this national treasure is permanently protected to the full extent of the law by supporting the Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act (H.R. 39).

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA) and Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN), would designate the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as a wilderness area with permanent protections.

These permanent protections are especially important for America's remaining polar bears. According to a U.S. Geological Survey report, polar bears will likely be extinct in Alaska in as little as 50 years due to rapidly melting sea ice. The Arctic Refuge is one of the most important onshore denning habitats for these magnificent creatures -- and permanent protections will give them a fighting chance at survival.

Hasn't GW done enough damage? Polars Bears will be extinct in our lifetime if we do not do something about it. I'm sure if we were discussing the extinction of your family, there would be a clear cut choice. Please do not drill!

The United States of America, we have put a man on the moon, spend billions on wars and sending up satellites. Its time everyone wakes up to saving all of natural resources. If we can build a space shuttle, then there are many alternatives to destroying the habitat of these amazing creatures. I want the Eisenhower Artic Wilderness Act HR 39 passed granting permanenet protection!! I will monitor how everyone votes and make sure those people will be looking for new jobs. America belongs to the people not the greedy oil companies and politicians who support them!

What we do to the earth we do to ourselves. As well destroy the planet and other life forms we act to destroy mankind too. Evolve or die, we must change the way we live

I WANT the Udall-Eisenhower Arctic Wilderness Act (H.R.39) to be supported and to make and keep the coastal plain of the Arctic Natinal Wildlife Refuge as a wilderness area with PERMANENT protections. I hope I see and hear who has supported this!

The Arctic Wildlife Refuge is one of our last remaining places where animals, such as polar bears, live without interference from people. Concerned citizens, such as myself, are trusting you to make the right decision - to protect the lives of countless animals and preserve the Arctic Wildlife Refuge for future generations.

Not only will this affect the polar bears but it is only going to increase the speed of Global Warming! We need to find greener ways at producing energy and move toward not being dependent on oil anymore.

THESE LAST REFUGES SHOULD BE LEFT IN VIRGIN CONDITION. LET'S QUIT TAMPERING WITH WHAT IS LEFT OF PROTECTED AREAS. MAN HAS DONE MORE THAN ENOUGH DEVELOPING. LET US NOT RUIN MORE OF THIS EARTH. LET US PROTECT RATHER THAN DESTROY ALL FORMS OF LIFE.

Please ensure the polar bear's continued existence. He is endangered already (even though the Bush Administration will not admit it). Once the polar bear is extinct, there will be no more, and the world will be a poorer place. Please help keep that from happening by providing a refuge and keeping one our few remaining wild places wild.

I think insted (sorry if i spelled that worng) of using budget on this waste the presedent should use budgets to find some other way to fuel cars, planes and others automobiles.

As I said before, I don't want to live in a world made of concrete, so I am signing this petition. More oil drilling is not the answer. Alternative fuel sources are the answer. We can't relie on oil forever. It won't last that long, that is if we last that long with all the distruction of global warming. We need to find another way to mobilize our work force and stop using oil for our industries, for our cars. If we start now, we just might survive and make a cleaner world to live in.

We must stop the insanity NOW! We cannot wait for a new president - there is no time. We must seek out and implement alternatives to oil. We must learn how to live without oil and the time to begin is right this second - not after loss of more species and destruction of more habitat.
