Help Protect America's Wetlands

Target: The President of the United States
Sponsored by: The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership

Our nation's wetlands, streams and other waters have a tremendous impact on everyone's lives. But development and draining of these areas result in the loss of an average of 80,000 acres of wetlands each year.

That is why we need 80,000 people to let the President know how important wetlands are to us. Parents want clean drinking water for their children. Families want to live without fear of their homes being flooded. Sportsmen want to protect habitat for fish and wildlife and enjoy the opportunities to hunt and fish.

Wetlands provide all these things and more. Tell the President we need to protect these areas for our future. Sign the petition today!

Dear [Mr./Madam] President,

Wetlands profoundly benefit the lives of every American.

They control floods and erosion, hold and cleanse water, and give us places to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors. What's more, wetlands provide habitat for many thousands of plant, fish and wildlife species.

Yet we continue to let our last - and best - wetlands slip through our hands. In fact, we lose an average of 80,000 acres of natural wetlands each year.

A series of recent rollbacks in legal protections now threaten to accelerate our nation's already appalling rate of wetlands loss. Leadership is needed to restore federal protections that are crucial to maintaining clean water and healthy wetlands.

The wetlands are an important link between the land and the water. We need to restore protection of these vital living ecosystems.

Everyone needs to help preserve our past. The wetlands are a big part of the beauty that is left in this world. If something is not done, and our voices are not heard we will all be living in a concrete world.

Wetlans are nature;s water filters, cleaning out all the filth accumulated from various locations water has reached. Without wetlands, not only would we lose such a beautiful treasure of our nation's history, but thousands of species, mostly endangered, such as the great whooping crane, but nature will lose its natural filtering system, thus resulting in dirty, contaminated water throughout florida and the death of thousands of other creatures, possibly even humans. Please protect the wetlands from further harm.

Wetlands purify water for all of us. The vital need to protect them is a no-brainer.

Not only are wetlands beautiful and a vital part of wildlife habitat but provide many functions for humans as well such as water filtering and storm buffering.

All life is interconnected and sacred. One cannot be sustained without the other. Yes, I very much love the animals and therefore do not hunt or exploit them in any way.

Because we are losing our wetlands, we are losing not only a beautiful part of our heritage and a needed home for wildlife, we are losing nature's "sponge" for heavy rainfall and nature's filter for clean water.

I must urge you to protect our wetlands. Dredging wetlands will bankrupt our nation's habitats store of real wealth. Building on wetlands will leave far reaching impacts on our environment

the wetland stabalize the food chain. without this habitat many species of animals will eventually die off and it will affect the whole entire ecosystem. its like the dommino theroy. please don't make this planet any worse than people are already making it. just do the right thing. think about it!
