Sign the End the Occupation of Iraq Pledge

Sponsored by: Peace Action Education Fund
Our elected officials may not be ready to end the occupation of Iraq - but we are!

There will be pivotal votes on the Iraq war throughout the summer, leading up to General Petraeus' progress report in September. We must be relentless in our pressure on politicians and let them know that the American people will accept nothing less than a timelined withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

We must be ready to end this occupation ourselves - by exercising our power as citizens. Take our pledge not to vote, volunteer or contribute to any candidate that doesn't support ending the occupation of Iraq.

I signed Peace Action West's Iraq pledge stating:

In the 2008 election, I will not vote for, contribute to, or volunteer for any member of Congress who:

* Votes against a concrete timeline for withdrawal of US troops from Iraq

* Votes to fund the war in Iraq without requiring that the funding be used for withdrawal of US troops, reconstruction, and regional diplomacy

* Supports permanent US military bases in Iraq and a long-term occupation

There is no military solution to the problem in Iraq, and like most Americans I want our troops and tax dollars coming home.

As Congress continues to vote on Iraq policy this year, I urge you to vote in favor of a concrete timeline to end the war in Iraq, and funding for reconstruction and regional diplomacy. Please write to let me know what action you will take on this critical issue.

Sincerely,

Bush started the war because he said Saddam Hussein was hiding, and therefore building, weapons of mass destruction. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING OF THE KIND!!!!!! More American soldiers are dying for an unecessary war. You know the weapon of mass destruction they developed? 9/11. So he can send everyone home now!

Enough is enough. This Iraq thing is turing into another Vietnam. It seem that if Bush has his way we would never never leave. I will only vote for canadates this year who have a solid plan to remove our troops from Iraq. I understand the need why we went there but its time to let it go and move on. Our war on terror has other battles which can be fought.

It is time for a leader who believes in the great power of peace and who will work for peace, in this country and in our world. It is time for change we can believe in.
