At this time last year, former Vice President Al Gore testified in Congress about why we need to stop building any new coal-fired power plant until we have the capability to safely capture and store the CO2.
More recently, the director of NASA's Goddard Space Institute, James Hansen, told congress that such a moratorium is "the most critical action for saving the planet at this time."
But even with these recommendations by such high figures, there are still over 110 coal-fired generating plants being built or planned in the United States. But there IS an alternative. Experts say that about 69 percent of U.S. electricity needs could be met by solar power by 2050, and that solar power could be the nation's sole electricity source by 2100.
Tell Congress that a moratorium on coal-fired power plants is needed now in order to halt the effects of climate change.
We signed the “No New Coal Power Plants!” petition!

Kansas is currently in a legislative battle over what will be the largest group of coal powered plants in the U.S. Hope this puts a stop to it.

Invest in public works of alternative energy funded by the federal gov't. All homes should be subsidized by our taxes to install solar on every home it will work for, and it should be manufactured in the US. It's working in Germany & Japan!

Coal is the dirtiest and most polluting source of energy found. It cannot be cleaned.

It boggles my mind that Congress is so willing to line the pockets of the Coal/Oil Industry at our expense but refuses to hear our demands for safer/cleaner fuels and the need support the Great Innovators in our Country. What exactly is wrong with trying something new and more efficient? Even if you don't believe in Global Warming or the effects of pollution on our Health?

Please invest in solar energy and eco-friendly energy sources. Please be a role model for the world, and not a destroyer of our planet earth. Please do the right thing and set a moratorium on new coal power plants. Thank you.

WE NEED TO START USING SOLAR AND WIND POWER NOW! WE ARE DESTROYING THIS PLANET WITH POLUTION AND DRAINING OF NATURAL RESOURCES. IT WOULD BE COSTLY AT FIRST, BUT WIND AND SUN ARE THE ANSWER.
