Pledge to Bring Clean Water AND Children's Laughter to Rural Africa

Sponsored by: PlayPumps International
Access to clean water is a very serious problem for more than one billion people. But this doesn't have to be the case. This holiday season, you can help children in Africa have fun and be healthy. The PlayPump International water system pumps clean water while children play on a merry-go-round.

Did you know that water-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world? And did you also know that:
  • The average person in rural Africa must walk five miles to the nearest water source;
  • Girls and women spend a total of over 200 million hours per day collecting water from often polluted sources; and
  • The average five-gallon container of water weighs about 40 pounds.
The award-winning PlayPumps design is a great solution! So far, nearly 700 PlayPumps have been installed near schools in South Africa, and with your help PlayPumps can bring clean drinking water to another 10 million people by 2010.

Pledge your support to bring clean, safe water AND the sound of children's laughter to impoverished areas of Sub-Saharan Africa.

I pledge to help provide access to clean drinking water, bring joy to children, and improve health, education, gender equality, and economic development in rural Africa by supporting PlayPumps International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to help improve the lives of children and their families by providing easy access to drinking water.

[Your comment]

Today, more than 1.1 billion people around the world have no access to clean drinking water. Unless action is taken, the number of people who lack access could increase to 2.3 billion by 2025. And as many as 135 million people will die from water-related diseases by 2020 unless changes are made.

I pledge to be part of the change by supporting PlayPumps International clean water system.

Sincerely,

I personally know the anguish that families in Africa suffer just to find drinking water for themselves and that of their families. I am blessed to have a strong friendship with young man in Uganda that is caring for and trying to establish a orphange for almost 100 children who have lost parents to AIDS. They walk 3.7 miles each way for water they need and the only thing stopping them from being approved as a site and receiving much needed financial help is the building of new latrines to meet the demands of 100+ people. The cost in American money about $450. Why do those with so much not hear the cries of those with so little...make a change - share in this burden as human beings and support clean drinking water for all. I know my new little brothers and sisters in Uganda would love one of these at their center !

Why is it so hard just to get people all around the world just a little water, so that they can keep up with household chores, or even just to waste a little to play on a merry-go-round, when here in the US we get all the clean water we can drink, besides what has been going on down south (Georgia), but still hasn't Africa gone through enough? Slaughtering, rapes, 7-year olds becoming wives and forced to bear children? What more do they need to bear until they get some fresh water. Maybe then they could do more for themselves, become stronger without having to worry about family dying because of contaminated water...please help! Give them LIFE, like James Robinson. We get life so why can't we give them some water to live off of.

Please do not send me paper mail at my home address as it wastes oil to make the printing devices, and to manufacture paper (possible deforestation) that might not get recycled at my house. Thank you
