Don't Let Idaho Kill Endangered Wolves

Target: Fish and Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife
Hundreds of wolves are at risk in Idaho, where in 2001 legislators passed a measure calling for the elimination of wolves "by any means necessary." The State has recently asked for permission to kill up to 75% of the wolves within the Lolo District of Clearwater National Forest and in an area where they are now protected as an endangered species. And, they want to repeat the slaughter in the Lolo District every year for the next five years.

Most unsettling is that Idaho would like to kill 3 out of 4 wolves regardless of the wolves' history of interaction with humans and livestock. That means that wolves that have never done anything to harm livestock or people could be killed.

Once hunted, trapped and poisoned to extinction in Idaho, wolves have made a remarkable recovery. An estimated 512 wolves, including 36 breeding packs, are a critical part of Idaho's ecosystems. And, contrary to anti-wolf extremists' claims, the wolves are not a significant threat to livestock or game populations.

Help us stop anti-wolf extremists and save the wolves – Urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife to deny Idaho's request to kill wolves.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting public comments through August 6th, 2007 on a new plan could allow more than half the wolves in Idaho and Wyoming to be killed. Please sign this new petition to submit your official comment now!
As a dedicated conservationist, I strongly urge the Fish and Wildlife Service to reject the state of Idaho's request to kill wolves in the Lolo Elk management zone of the Clearwater Basin and in the area north of I-90, where gray wolves are still protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Gray wolves are an important part of Idaho's ecosystems, and contrary to anti-wolf extremists, are not a significant threat to livestock or game populations. Studies show that habitat loss has had a far greater effect on elk numbers than the reintroduction of wolves to Idaho.

These are not responsible management practices. I strongly encourage you to deny unfounded requests to kill wolves.

Thank you for considering my comments.

This is insane what is the world coming to if there are no more animals in the wild then there will be an over population of the food that the wolves eat then what are we going to try and kill off every animal in the world. Animals were here before us they have more reasons and rights to be here than we do. We barged in and inhabited their homes. If I was a wolf I would probably be killing alot more things that livestock.

There are other ways to solve this problem than by ignorantly killing these beautiful creatures. It's terrible how humans will just jump to the easiest solution regardless of the consequences.

Humans are the ones overpopulating and taking over wild animal territory. The least we can do is come up with humane solutions for the problems we are causing and killing wolves is not one of them

Wolves are a necessary part of the natural environment just as other species are. Research has shown that wolves and humans can coexist peacefully so it is sick to just kill mercilessly. Individuals thinking about such acts in Idaho need to re-evaluate how much they value their own lives and think about the entire natural order of their environment that sustains them...including wolves.

All animals have a great inpact on nature's balance. If you keep on killing thse wolves it will have a permanent impact on nature. The next generation has the right to enjoy this magnificent animal as well.
