Don't Let Idaho Kill Endangered Wolves

Target: Fish and Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife
Hundreds of wolves are at risk in Idaho, where in 2001 legislators passed a measure calling for the elimination of wolves "by any means necessary." The State has recently asked for permission to kill up to 75% of the wolves within the Lolo District of Clearwater National Forest and in an area where they are now protected as an endangered species. And, they want to repeat the slaughter in the Lolo District every year for the next five years.

Most unsettling is that Idaho would like to kill 3 out of 4 wolves regardless of the wolves' history of interaction with humans and livestock. That means that wolves that have never done anything to harm livestock or people could be killed.

Once hunted, trapped and poisoned to extinction in Idaho, wolves have made a remarkable recovery. An estimated 512 wolves, including 36 breeding packs, are a critical part of Idaho's ecosystems. And, contrary to anti-wolf extremists' claims, the wolves are not a significant threat to livestock or game populations.

Help us stop anti-wolf extremists and save the wolves – Urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife to deny Idaho's request to kill wolves.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting public comments through August 6th, 2007 on a new plan could allow more than half the wolves in Idaho and Wyoming to be killed. Please sign this new petition to submit your official comment now!
As a dedicated conservationist, I strongly urge the Fish and Wildlife Service to reject the state of Idaho's request to kill wolves in the Lolo Elk management zone of the Clearwater Basin and in the area north of I-90, where gray wolves are still protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Gray wolves are an important part of Idaho's ecosystems, and contrary to anti-wolf extremists, are not a significant threat to livestock or game populations. Studies show that habitat loss has had a far greater effect on elk numbers than the reintroduction of wolves to Idaho.

These are not responsible management practices. I strongly encourage you to deny unfounded requests to kill wolves.

Thank you for considering my comments.

That is ridiculous that 75% of those wolves would be killed. I think all of you people that want to do this should be ashamed of yourselves. This is an endangered breed. A beautiful animal, and we have no right to take their lives away.

Once again I am disguisted and shocked at the ignorance and gall of some people. Wolves are beautiful and wonderous creatures that should be protected. They help keep everything in the ecosystem in balance. They're remarkable and clever animals that have done NOTHING to these people. Wolves do not go around attacking people contrary to what these jerks may beleive. They only kill to eat and only attack the old and the weak. It's how nature intended it to be. You can't just let them slaughter those poor creatures like that! It's wrong and uncalled for. I firmly beleive this shouldn't be allowed to happen.

WE HAVE DESTROYED OUR EARTH ENOUGH. WE NEED ALL ANIMALS IN ORDER FOR US TO SURVIVE. MAYBE, IF YOU REALLY HAVE IT IN YOUR SOUL, DESTROY SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE RUINED OUR EARTH FOR THEIR OWN GREED...NOW THAT IS A THOUGHT. AND REMEMBER, WHAT WE FEAR, WE KILL. GET RID OF YOUR FEAR, REPLACE IT WITH LOVE AND ALL WILL LIVE TOGETHER

I think its rediculous that there's a request to kill 75% of ENDANGERED wolves. There is NO WAY that this request should be carried out.

Stop meddling with the ecosystem; these majestic creatures must be allowed to live.

Why should humans have the power to decide what animals live or die? We say we are the top species, but that is only because we have tools. Without those tools, all of the other animals would kick our ass. It isn't just our world, the world belongs to all animals.

Just because some people consider them just wild animals, they are in fact living creatures who deserve to live as you and I do, so please treat them with the upmost respect cause once there gone what will be killed off next.

Wolves are an endangered species which means this is our last chance before they become extinct. Extinct means they are NOT coming back, no matter how hard you conserve. Please, keep these precious creatures safe! We are all God's children.

Wolves are already endangered! They may have been recently taken off the list every now and then but thats because of the over-all population of the Wolves. most of those wolves live in Alaska- where they are already being killed, and others live in Canada and only a few live in the United states where they're already in the danger of being killed..

wolves are beautiful, majestic animals that are vital to our eco system...not to mention the fact that they have better family morals than most people do. as an american, i take it personally when slaughtering animals needlessly is allowed only to profit or help greedy humans!!! save the wolves...once endangered animals are gone..that means EXTINCT!

Wolves are so important to the ecosystem. By killing them, you are damaging, possibly even destroying, the ecosystem there. Not only that but wolves are endangered. And to top it off, they lived there first. Humans are the ones who came there and took their land. The wolves are just trying to survive. And you want to respond to that by killing them. Please do something to fix this before we lose wolves in yet another part of the world.
