FDA Schedules Vote on Plan B - Make This Time the Last!

Target: Andrew von Eschenbach, FDA Commissioner
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
The morning-after pill: Women have been waiting a long time to access it without a prescription. Now, the FDA has re-started its decision-making process around the fate of the morning-after pill, also known as Plan B.

Despite FDA experts' own findings that Plan B is a safe and effective contraceptive method for women AND their recommendation that it be approved for over-the-counter use, anti-choice politicians have successfully pressured the FDA to refuse to improve access to it for more than 3 years.

Don't let lack of public pressure be the reason the FDA sits on its laurels again.

Sign the petition to make this THE LAST round of decision-making on the morning-after pill!

Call on the FDA to support its own internal recommendations and stand with the hundreds of thousands of women who favor over-the-counter access to Plan B now!
deadline: 8-1-2007

On Thursday August 24th, after a contentious three-year battle, the FDA voted to make Plan B available to women without a prescription.

This victory has been attributed in no small part to the action of women's rights groups and their supporters. Thanks from everyone at Care2 and NARAL Pro-Choice America for giving women the power to choose!

Keep up the good work!

Dear Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach,

I'm writing in regards to the recent announcement that the FDA will re-start its decision-making process over approving the morning-after pill, or Plan B, for over-the-counter use.

Women have been waiting for over three years for the FDA to make this decision. And as you're well aware, your agency's own senior scientists and experts have found that emergency contraception is a safe and effective method for preventing unintended pregnancy and have recommended its approval for over-the-counter use.

We urge you to listen to the findings of your colleagues and to respect the wishes of hundreds of thousands of women around the country by improving their access to the morning-after pill.

[YOUR COMMENT]

We've all waited long enough.

Thank you.
We signed the “FDA Schedules Vote on Plan B - Make This Time the Last!” petition!

How much longer is is going to take before women are given the respect and consideration they deserve? They should be the ones who decide whether or not they want children.

No one has the right to make another person's decision. Choose for yourself only and let others decide for themselves what is best for them.

Leave religion in the churches where it belongs. Women have a right to control what happens to their own bodies...Let the ladies decide!

This is a form of age descrimination, which violates the reproductive rights of young women, the group that needs it the most.

There is no reason for delay. Approve drugs based on science and leave the preaching in the churches. Don't push us toward church rule over government. We see easily what that leads to in the Middle East. Uphold the principles our country was founded upon, that is, separation of religion and government.

How ironic that the same political fringe forces who are so against abortion would fight so hard against the unhindered access of a relatively safe medication which would, by and large, prevent what they say they hate most. Access to birth control is the rule of law in the United States. The FDA has conducted its exhaustive studies on the efficacy of this medication, and has concluded a high margin of safety. It is time to make this fully available to all women who need it, and end the necessity of more drastic procedures to end unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. November approaches.

many women in this country are raped and do not report it. These women and others who are worried because of faulty contraception should have an choice to do something to prevent an unwanted child. I know that if I were raped I would not want to discover I was carrying the child of someone who had violated me.

I trust that people try to make the best decisions for themselves and those they love -- if that decision involves Plan B then so be it.

Women have a right to use preventative medication, instead of having to choose clinical abortion.
