In November's special election called by Governor Schwarzenegger, Californians will see a dangerous initiative on the ballot. Californians will have an opportunity to vote on a parental notification measure on a woman's access to abortion, which threatens the health and well being of young women in our state.
Real family communication begins at home, not at the ballot box. The best way to protect our daughters is to begin talking to them about responsible, appropriate sexual behavior when they're young and to continue to keep the lines of communication open as they get older. Our focus should be on prevention of unwanted pregnancies through comprehensive sex education, counseling and access to contraceptives.
This proposed amendment to California’s constitution, known as Proposition 73, would do nothing to reduce the number of unintended teen pregnancies - pregnancies that have in fact declined 40% in California over the past decade without government mandates like this one!
Join us in opposing Proposition 73, because parents and teens need real world solutions, not constitutional amendments.
We signed the “Protect the Health and Safety of California's Young Women” petition!

If young women are not able to access the support of their own families, for whatever reason, this amendment will alienate them even more. Perhaps turning to dangerous alternatives, rather than bearing the brunt of their families anger, shame, embarrassment, abandonment, etc. No woman has ever decided to seek termination of a pregnancy lightly, we are inherently the lifegivers.

Obviously, it would reduce the number of "legal" abortions. This does not mean the baby would be allowed to live and then be raised in a healthy family life. Laws such as this proposed notification requirement will push us back to the dark ages -- days of back alley abortions done with coathangers, which will lead to more health problems. Yuck. I'd like to think Ahnold was smarter than this. Terminate this proposed requirement!

Everyone should be able to have an abortion. The parents don't have to raise the child and really unwanted children are often (emotional) abused or neglected.

I have the perfect solution to reducing the number of teen pregnancies ready here it is: end the goddam divorce epidemic I'm not saying people should'nt have the right to get divorced if they both decide it's best and absolutely nesessary but come on people this has gotten way out of hand roughly 50 percent of all marriages end in divorce and the famous no fault law has really done NOTHING to help end the epidemic or even ease the suffering of the children. When parents divorce for whatever reason it has been proven that the children suffer some kind of emotional scarring whether it be delinquency, trouble at school, low self esteem, drug use, thoughts of suicide, or premarrital sex and the list goes on, and I know that some kids in intact families have these problems too, however the vast majority of these cases come from children who grew up in broken or stepfamily homes, ya parents ever wonder why you just can't get through to your children, not knowing what could possibly posess them to resort to these kinds of behavior, well most of you probably thought there's no way our divorce could be the REASON, after all you were to self absorbed to even acknowledge how what seemed at the time to be a great solution a way out of your struggling marriage would ever cause these kinds of repressive behaviors in you children, the video games, violent music, pornography, but not divorce! Divorce is a good thing it helps people who can't get along because now they can fight over the phone or online instead of under the same roof and they can badmouth eachother even more and all the while the kids stand by and try to hack it all ya you tell me who are the grown ups now. I mean If the divorce is due to one spouse cheating on the other or the man is an asshole who can't control his rage, drinking, or spitefulness and batters his wife and kids or if they simply aren't attracted to each other anymore "no more spark in the relationship" then it's okay by me. However if it's just a way out because you and your partner just can't get along and work out your problems then here is some advice: GROW UP if you can't think of any possible reason why staying together is WORTH IT, then always remember god gave us all to parents for a REASON. The decisions of the 1st generation affect the 2nd. The INNOCENT VICTIMS. Ow and by the way I'm liberal!
