Oppose Anti-Same Sex Marriage Constitutional Amendment

Sponsored by: Care2

The California Supreme Court has just confirmed what we all know in our hearts - that lesbians and gay men in California have every right to marry the person they love.

This is an historic moment - but there is a real threat to our joy looming in November. Anti-gay bigots are pushing to get a constitutional amendment on November's ballot to ban same-sex marriage. If approved, this amendment would overturn the Supreme Court's decision and send California into the dark ages in terms of equality.

We need to build momentum now to defeat this dangerous amendment. Please pledge to vote against a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and then ask your friends to do the same. As we grow this movement we'll let the media know that Californians want marriage equality for all!

MY PLEDGE:

I support the rights of lesbians and gay men to marry, and I am thrilled by the California Supreme Court's decision to affirm this fundamental right. I pledge to vote NO on any constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in California. I will spread the word about this dangerous amendment and urge all of my friends to vote NO as well.

Couples should be able to live together & obtain legality as partners but SAME SEX MARRIAGE is against the law of GOD.

What gets me is that when the judges agreed that discrimination is wrong for Californian's, then why is legal to allow the hate mongers to create a discriminate bill to go before the voters taking away equality and making California once again a discriminative state?

It's simple... It has nothing to do with gender, it has to do with LOVE...!! Who are 'we' to judge the love of another person! Worse yet, to 'disallow' people to love there loved ones the way 'we' can love our loved ones. It's very shameful I say!! (I'm sad to say I'm a human being in matters like this...)

As someone happily married to my Canadian wife, I can share the love and support I have experienced from my local community. These laws promote love and harmony in the wider community and promulgate basic human equalities - that is the right to love whichever person one chooses. Canada's social fabric has not been destroyed by same-sex marriage, it has been enriched. Please continue to allow your citizens to love the person they choose, regardless of gender. Love has changed my life, and the lives of our children for the better. It is not about gender, it is about love.

All loving couples should have the right to wed and have equal rights under the law. All human beings should be treated equally and should be able to legally marry.

I think marriage is about love, and when I think of someone telling me what I feel for my boyfriend is not real love, like gay couples hear all the time, it makes me really mad.

laws Prohibiting same sex marriages are ridiculous to begin with. It's a human right to love and there is no one on Earth worthy of telling people who they can love. It's about time that people get the recognition and benefits every human in love deserves.

Opposition is essentially based on religious beliefs which should have no standing in this arena. It is a simple matter of equality.

Gay people seem to be the only ones we are still legally and technically encouraged to discriminate against and hate.

the rights of married partners should be available to all couples whether same gender or opposite. marriage is a civil matter, not one that should be governed by religious beliefs.

My sister has been with her partner all her adult life, yet the children they wish to adopt are not "available" to gay parents. So there they sit in orphanages or foster homes with no idea of what having loving parents means; it is just not right! In their state, if one was to become impregnated, the judicial system would remove the baby saying the parent(s) were "unfit"! What is wrong wth the U.S. where a couple hugging in public can be arrested? IT HAS HAPPENED to my family member! TIME to EVOLVE and accept!

It's 2008, why this hasn't happen already. Beats me, just goes to show that America isn't all that free. People are scared of themselves. It's about time.

This is a monumental movement that has finally been acknowledged in this way in California. It is a triumph for the LGBT community and activists alike, and so much should be done to maintain this (finally) given equality for same-sex marriage.

This should not only be in California but everywhere in fact all over the world would is the way it should be. Lets take Germany’s lead in Gay marriage when they legalized it in 2001. My partner and I hope to get married one day also!

Freedom of choice should also apply to whom we choose to legally commit to, it is everyone's right, gay or straight.

We all are entitled to our rights, the Pursuit of Happiness as stated in the Constitution is every person's right. We need to stand up for our rights and show the world that California is not a cry baby but a thought-fomenting, action-taking adult, responsible for it's residents safety, equality and welfare; and respectful of individuals' decisions.
