The California Supreme Court has just confirmed what we all know in our hearts - that lesbians and gay men in California have every right to marry the person they love.
This is an historic moment - but there is a real threat to our joy looming in November. Anti-gay bigots are pushing to get a constitutional amendment on November's ballot to ban same-sex marriage. If approved, this amendment would overturn the Supreme Court's decision and send California into the dark ages in terms of equality.
We need to build momentum now to defeat this dangerous amendment. Please pledge to vote against a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and then ask your friends to do the same. As we grow this movement we'll let the media know that Californians want marriage equality for all!
MY PLEDGE:
I support the rights of lesbians and gay men to marry, and I am thrilled by the California Supreme Court's decision to affirm this fundamental right. I pledge to vote NO on any constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in California. I will spread the word about this dangerous amendment and urge all of my friends to vote NO as well.

I think it's idiotic to even make this an issue! When a person finds another compatible person of whatever gender, and both agree that marriage -- a commitment of love -- is what they want, it is morally criminal to deny that to them.
Not many people are aware that the early Christian Church had a special marriage ceremony especially for same-sex couples. I said MARRIAGE ceremony, not "civil union" or "partnership" or any other such contract. You Bible-thumpers ought to get acquainted with Biblical history and stop listening to your ignorant pastors. If you think you're a Christian, ask the good Rev. exactly what Jesus said about homosexuality. Answer: He said nada.
Finally, it is unconstitutional to deny rights to any one group of citizens, that other groups enjoy. The Constitution is separate from any denomination of any church, and therefore in matters of legality (e.g. marriage), all citizens are to be given the same rights. Period.

I have ended up with two sisters-in-law who were gay, and they both were wonderful people. So were their partners. Why should we discriminate against them if they wish to have a civil union? A lot of married people I have known have been MUCH worse human beings!

Because all should be treated equally under the Constitution, provided they do not harm another. To marry the person of their choice harms no one.

Because it's the right thing to do. Because it's American to support equal rights. Because we all deserve to be equal in the eyes of the law and we're far from it and this would be one step in that direction for at least some of us.

Because everyone should have the right to declare their dedication to the person they love.
What could be more respectable than 2 people making a life-time oath to be faithful to each other?

Marriage has become a question of legality, and same-sex couples deserve the same legal rights as different-gender couples.

My daughter is gay and legally married in the first state to approve same sex marriages. Her marriage is better than any opposite sex marriage I've ever seen. America needs to move forward and grow up.

I have happily been bisexual for 1 and 1/2 years. It is a right that we are aloud to be happy but if we can't marry who we love then we aren't really going to be happy. I think its dumb how we can't marry the same sex but yet we can't stop straight people from getting married. What if we tried to make it so straight people couldn't get married? Then how would you feel about that?

Sexual orientation is NOT a choice, but something a person is born with and cannot honestly change. Everyone should have the right to the happiness and security of marriage, as well as the benefits that go with it.

This country has a history of singling out groups[blacks, women, latinas, asians etc] to discriminate against, while we cheerfully spout,"With liberty and justice for all"{as long as you are white heterosexual male Christian] Its time we get into the 21rst century. Gays are as entitled to equal rights as anyone else!!!!

We have no idea why some creatures are born with a preference for people of the same sex as they are, but some how, it happens. Maybe it's something in the genes. They are different, through no effort on their part.
As long as the learning process continues the way it does--sadly--we'll continue to have people dispay their ignorance the way they do.

i do not favor common law in most states between a woman and man. Why? For whatever the reason, we should not reconize male and male or female and female as a union. but for whatever the reason, this nation need to look to the Bible for guidance and moral decisions. in the beginning it was adam and eve, not adam and steve.

Who are we to judge? Those who say read the bible, take a look at you priests who for years have molested and been protected by the church. Why is this even an issue? A commitment to one another who ever it maybe is beautiful. There are more same sex relationships that last a lot longer than hetorosexual marriages, look at the statisics.
