Tell Congress: No More Money For Iraq

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Democrats.com
March 19 marked the 5th Anniversary of George Bush's disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq - yet there is no end in sight.

The costs so far are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.

All that in just 5 years!

We elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to bring our troops home. They politely sent Bush one bill after another to "change the course," but he vetoed them all.

So Democrats have just one choice left: to Just Say No to any more funds for Iraq.

The Constitution gives Congress control of the Federal checkbook. George Bush cannot spend a penny unless Congress writes him a check.

Unfortunately, Congress has written one blank check after another, now totaling $562 billion. And now George Bush wants another blank check for $102 billion. Congress is set to vote on this next week.

No More Money For Iraq, Except To Bring Our Troops Safely Home

Dear Representative,

The costs of the invasion and occupation of Iraq are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.

I urge you to vote against any more money for Iraq, except to bring our troops safely home.

Sincerely,

This isn't even our money--we're selling our country down the drain and doing so much damage to American men and women that it is unbelievable that our representatives continue to let this happen. STOP THE WAR NOW!!!

We should be pulling out, not sending more people in. It doesn't take a fool to realize that when we eventually do pull out (no matter what date), the country will devolve into whatever comes from the inevitable in-fighting. Give it up.

I make $10 and hour and have no insurance, my gas costs $4.14 a gallon and there is no public trans. I cannot afford to allocate my contribution to my country's budget this way. Please help spend my money on things that promote life and support community.

We have lost enough men and spent enough money and have accomplished nothing. Bring our men home where they belong and keep our money in the USA to support our failing nation. Take care of our elderly and children with the billions we have spent on the war. TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN!!!!!!
