Tell Congress: No More Money For Iraq

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Democrats.com
March 19 marked the 5th Anniversary of George Bush's disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq - yet there is no end in sight.

The costs so far are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.

All that in just 5 years!

We elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to bring our troops home. They politely sent Bush one bill after another to "change the course," but he vetoed them all.

So Democrats have just one choice left: to Just Say No to any more funds for Iraq.

The Constitution gives Congress control of the Federal checkbook. George Bush cannot spend a penny unless Congress writes him a check.

Unfortunately, Congress has written one blank check after another, now totaling $562 billion. And now George Bush wants another blank check for $102 billion. Congress is set to vote on this next week.

No More Money For Iraq, Except To Bring Our Troops Safely Home

Dear Representative,

The costs of the invasion and occupation of Iraq are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.

I urge you to vote against any more money for Iraq, except to bring our troops safely home.

Sincerely,

I urge you to join other representatives in refusing to allow this rogue administration to continue this endless campaign that offers no credible solution beyond permanent occupation. He got us into this mess, along with the consent of congress. You now have the rationale and political position to start demanding conditions upon the money going to this effort rather than a blank check. We need to have set goals to extract ourselves from this mess before it drains the treasury and continues to waste the blood of American service personnel.

Please don't permit Mr. Bush to bankrupt our country for the Iraq war! We have so many immediate issues in our own country to tend to, such as the homeless, uninsured, and mortgage crisis - not to mention the largest national deficit ever! Let's start taking care of our own people!!!

The President and Vice President don't mind sending our Kids to get Killed, but why don't they send there's? I'm sure there neices, and nephew and even close friends don't go. The only one's getting anything out of this war are the contractors and those who manage these companies.

Enough is enough! Out of respect and kindness for the civilians of Iraq, stop fueling this cruel battle. Set an agenda so that the troops must retreat after 3 years.
