Tell Congress: No More Money For Iraq

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Democrats.com
March 19 marked the 5th Anniversary of George Bush's disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq - yet there is no end in sight.

The costs so far are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.

All that in just 5 years!

We elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to bring our troops home. They politely sent Bush one bill after another to "change the course," but he vetoed them all.

So Democrats have just one choice left: to Just Say No to any more funds for Iraq.

The Constitution gives Congress control of the Federal checkbook. George Bush cannot spend a penny unless Congress writes him a check.

Unfortunately, Congress has written one blank check after another, now totaling $562 billion. And now George Bush wants another blank check for $102 billion. Congress is set to vote on this next week.

No More Money For Iraq, Except To Bring Our Troops Safely Home

Dear Representative,

The costs of the invasion and occupation of Iraq are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.

I urge you to vote against any more money for Iraq, except to bring our troops safely home.

Sincerely,

Any more, I have to wonder what is the point of signing these petitions? We've been signing them for quite a while now, and I see nothing changing for the better. We're now in debt to China, our citizens lack health care, the Katrina victims are still on their own, U.S. military and innocent Iraqi citizens are still being killed, and the Iraq war continues, despite the fact that the majority of Americans want it to end. I didn't think America could ever come to a dictatorship; but, from all appearances, it's only one person's voice that seems to count...Bush. The rest of us have no voice, no matter how many petitions we sign.

We simply cannot afford it, no matter WHAT the outcome is. Sometimes a family lives beyond their means. The result of that can be bankruptcy or worse. We are that family.

The funding of this illegal war MUST BE STOPPED NOW. The USA is in financial shambles while there is no end to the killing of innocent people in Iraq--WHY? Take car of the problems AT HOME, END THIS WAR!

Not one more penny for Bush and Company. Spend that money on health care for USA citizens and for education for our children. Spend my taxes on bringing home the troops as soon as possible. No more money for war.

We had neither the reason (The Shrub's WMD search was a joke) nor the right to go in there as we did. After so many lost lives, it is beyond belief that he wants to spend still more lives and tax-payers money on this disaster.
