Target:U.S. House of Representatives Sponsored by:Democrats.com
March 19 marked the 5th Anniversary of George Bush's disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq - yet there is no end in sight.
The costs so far are staggering: over 4,000 young Americans killed, tens of thousands maimed ... estimates of 1 million Iraqi civilians killed, millions more maimed or driven abroad ... $562 billion in tax dollars stolen from our children ... $3 trillion cost to our economy through veterans care, weapons replacement, higher oil prices, and the collapsing dollar.
All that in just 5 years!
We elected a Democratic Congress in 2006 to bring our troops home. They politely sent Bush one bill after another to "change the course," but he vetoed them all.
So Democrats have just one choice left: to Just Say No to any more funds for Iraq.
The Constitution gives Congress control of the Federal checkbook. George Bush cannot spend a penny unless Congress writes him a check.
Unfortunately, Congress has written one blank check after another, now totaling $562 billion. And now George Bush wants another blank check for $102 billion. Congress is set to vote on this next week.
Sign our petition to tell your Representative: no more money for Iraq, except to bring our troops safely home.
We signed the “Tell Congress: No More Money For Iraq” petition!

Just today I read about another young man who died in Iraq leaving behind a wife and 3 small daughters. I know people are called on to make sacrifices for this country, but he was already doing so much for his community and family without having to serve in a useless war. I salute his courage and am sure he did a lot of good over there, but now is the time to put a stop to all of this.

The majority of our country wants out of this horrendous war, and wants broad Medicare-type federally-funded insurance. We expect our government representatives to act on our views.

It was a bad idea to fund it in the first place and the idea hasn't improved with time. We must bear in mind that what we are funding is more death for our soldiers and Iraqi citizens and more trouble in the Middle East.

DEAR GOD NOOO! Bush will bankrupt this country. We are already in a recession - with a national debt in the trillions - and he wants to send more money into the black hole of oversight that is Iraq today. Another $102 million into private contractors pockets, while they build crumbling buildings and kill innocent Iraqis? DEAR GO NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Setting aside the human cost of this war, the financial cost is driving our own country into despair. Among many other things, we are not able to afford proper medical coverage and proper education for our own people. It is high time to shift our priorities back to our own country.

our tax money is to aid our country and it's people. It's insanity to continue throwing away our country's future for a useless war.

Enough is enough! Pres. Bush has destroyed our country--out of control gas prices, unemployment, cuts in needed funds, etc. We (the USA) need the money here. Put the money to GOOD use, and stop agreeing to funding the war in Iraq.
