End Euthanasia of Healthy and Treatable Animals!

Sponsored by: American Humane Association
Every year, an estimated four to six million dogs and cats are euthanized in animal care and control facilities in the United States. This problem is pervasive, and it remains a source of shame for our country.

The American Humane Association's Getting to Zero® Initiative is a national undertaking based on the profound belief that, within our lifetime, American society can reduce to zero the number of healthy or treatable dogs, cats and other companion animals that are euthanized in animal care and control facilities.

This program will help identify, support and obtain funding for the replication of community-based interventions that have demonstrated success in reducing the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals. These include adoption, foster care, spay/neuter, training, transfer and generally bringing community support where it is needed most.

Sign this petition today to support programs like American Humane's Getting to Zero® Initiative, because these animals all deserve a chance to live!

The people of not only the US but foreign countries as well, need to understand the disservice they are doing to our animal population by not spaying and neutering their pets. How sad it is to see animals wondering the streets sick, hungry and in need of a home. Animals give us so much more than we give them. If only humans could be responsive to the needs of animals, or do not have a pet.

i live in australia and i know that mny many pets and animals get put down over hereand i think it is degracful like my mum would have bought me a dog from the rspca but they told us we couldnt as our finces were like 3 inches to short thatdog could have been put down and if they just let us by it it wouldnt have sufferd a very bleek furture so i think its really wrong and at the killing shelters they should also put the prices down coz over here i know its like 400 dollars for a dog and i think 150 for a cat and thats heaps expensive so thats partly the reason why so many are getting destroyed so i hope this petition can make these places realise they have to put there prices down and also find hoes for these healthy animals thanx bye xx

I think if more people took the time and responsibility when they are adopting or buying any animal, to put the thought in their mind that they are now responsible for a "LIFE"...A loving, breathing, living life. I see so many surrenders at the shelter I volunteer at..It is so heartbreaking. People have the lamest excuses...I dont have the time to spend with her now that she needs more exercise. I didnt know she was going to get this big and eat on the furniture. Oh the best one that gets me going is "Im moving and the place I have chosen doesnt allow pets." Then the owner has the frick nerve to ask "She'll get a home soon, won't she" Well I look back at him and say the older dogs are the hardest to adopt out and his dog was 11 years old. 11 years this poor dog knew noone but him. Well needless to say, that dog was adopted out..Im a sucker OK...I couldnt let him be euthanized because a stupid person let him down...He lived another 4 years...The name I gave the animal was "Freedom"...It was perfect I thought for she lived her remaining 4 years free as a bird....Thats just one sad story that ended good. Many dont. Please watch my video...please spread the word...This does not need to happen. Animals hurt too... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FzVaiv5tMPY Just copy and paste above link (as one line)....let me know what you think on my comments section....sad video....but true...

It is not right to murder poor animals just becasue they were lost or unwanted. We need more low cost spay/neuter offices. These kill shelters should be trying to find homes for the animals rather then setting a date to be put down. Please put an end to this insanity. Way too many healty and loving animals are being put to sleep for no reason.

This is cruel. It is the owners fault not theirs for not fixing their pets. Why must such an innocent creature be killed for their owners stupidity? I have five wonderful dogs and all of them are fixed. If I had the means and the land I would rescue every dog that needed a loving home but I just cant. This needs t obe stopped.

They don't deserved to die. Especially since they're highly healthy, easy to handle, and most worthy to be adopted by a loving family.

IT REALLY IS AWFUL SO MANY ANIMALS AROUND THE WORLD ARE SUFFERING. IF PEOPLE WOULD JUST TAKE THE TIME TO SPAY AND NEUTER THEIR ANIMALS LIKE THE LAW SAYS IN THE UNITED STATES, WE WOULDN'T HAVE A BUNCH OF HELPLESS ANIMALS RUNNING AROUND OUR STREETS! GOD BLESS ALL THESE ORPHANED/ABANDONED ANIMALS THAT NEED SO MUCH LOVE AND A GOOD HOME.

Ending so many pet euthanasia's is just a matter of more education and funding and laws for pet spay and neuter programs. We claim to be civilized, but the true nature of a society should be judged on how we treat all life, not just human life.
