End Euthanasia of Healthy and Treatable Animals!

Sponsored by: American Humane Association
Every year, an estimated four to six million dogs and cats are euthanized in animal care and control facilities in the United States. This problem is pervasive, and it remains a source of shame for our country.

The American Humane Association's Getting to Zero® Initiative is a national undertaking based on the profound belief that, within our lifetime, American society can reduce to zero the number of healthy or treatable dogs, cats and other companion animals that are euthanized in animal care and control facilities.

This program will help identify, support and obtain funding for the replication of community-based interventions that have demonstrated success in reducing the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals. These include adoption, foster care, spay/neuter, training, transfer and generally bringing community support where it is needed most.

Sign this petition today to support programs like American Humane's Getting to Zero® Initiative, because these animals all deserve a chance to live!

A better route would to have clinics do free spay/neuters, also there are such things as foster homing animals, which eliminates the need for wasting money on euthanasia, there are always willing people to foster a homeless animal. Euthanasia of healthy or treatable pets is wrong and unjustified. There is no need.

This is unacceptable treatment of animals! Animals have a right to life, and euthanizing them should not be taken so lightly. They are feeling, thinking beings and deserve our respect and fair treatment!

It's a shame that we have to go to such lengths to make laws to spare innocent lives. It should be a basic trait of humanity to have compassion for animals that do nothing but love and trust us...and this is the thanks our society shows them for that. I admire all those that are speaking up for animals and will do whatever I can to continue to contribute to their care and protection and I thank those of you for sites and participation like this.

I think we really need to focus on mandatory spaying and neutering, to include pure breeds because they also end up at the pound. Then there would be "room" for healthy animals to be given a chance at a forever home. Plus, bad breeding causes allergy and yeast problems, etc., with Labs in particular.
