End Euthanasia of Healthy and Treatable Animals!

Sponsored by: American Humane Association
Every year, an estimated four to six million dogs and cats are euthanized in animal care and control facilities in the United States. This problem is pervasive, and it remains a source of shame for our country.

The American Humane Association's Getting to Zero® Initiative is a national undertaking based on the profound belief that, within our lifetime, American society can reduce to zero the number of healthy or treatable dogs, cats and other companion animals that are euthanized in animal care and control facilities.

This program will help identify, support and obtain funding for the replication of community-based interventions that have demonstrated success in reducing the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals. These include adoption, foster care, spay/neuter, training, transfer and generally bringing community support where it is needed most.

Sign this petition today to support programs like American Humane's Getting to Zero® Initiative, because these animals all deserve a chance to live!

This is coming from a person who has a three-legged cat, and previously a blind cat and a premature goat kid: Dont kill them, just give them a cozy home and some love, and they will forget all their troubles and pains.

Pet euthanasia could be curbed by passing strict spay/neuter laws! Let's curtail the actions of backyard breeders, puppy mill owners and irresponsible pet owners!

Semplicemente terribile. Vi prego non lo fate. Nessuno ha diritto di decidere della vita o della morte di NESSUNA creatura.

In our society today, where irresponsibility often goes hand-in-hand with unaccountability, it is the helpless who often pay the ultimate price for human failings...our pets! When we begin to hold pet owners accountable for their own laziness, apathy, greed or just plain stupidity, maybe then the pet overpopulation problem in this country can begin to be solved. Until that day, lets save those we can and hope that eventually mankind will wake up and stop the needless killing.

Please don't kill animals that are healthy and treatable! Whats the use of our progress in technology and health care if we couldn't even extend it to those animals who need it most!?!

It might be easier to kill them but it's still not right! If they are treatable then treat them, and find a home for them. There are plenty of people out there will to open there hearts and homes to animals that need them. Give the poor things a chance..How would you feel if you were in thier shoes?

It's a sad and barbaric end to put down healthy and loving animals of any kind ....there are better , civalized ways to fix this problem ...spay and neuter should be a requirement for pet ownership ...Breeders should be licenced and monitored..any dog found loose should be trapped , neutered/spayed and returned...Over time it would save money ..as not as many dogs would be entering shelters and those through good adoptions , foster programs should be able to find homes ..We liecence to drive ...why not licence to own a pet? It should be a privledge ...not a right ! These are living, loving creatures that God has put in our charge!WE CAN DO THIS !!! End euthanasia of good animals !

Euthanasia is used for the humane end of suffering of a terminally ill dog or an extremely aggressive dog that is not mentally right. This should NOT include animals that have minimal health issues or animals that are healthy. When these are killed it is murder. If more education was available to people about the truth of dogs and the different breeds of dogs then the public would be much more willing to adopt a dog. Talk to the media about stopping the lies about Pit Bull type dogs. Most people are afraid of them and they don't even know anything about them. Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes take up about 40 - 60 % of dogs in some shelters. For most of them, it is the end of the road due to lies and incorrect information. Educate People!

I think we all need to support programs like the American Humane Association's "Getting to Zero Initiative". We need to try and do everything we can to save innocent little lives. If they are healthy, treatable animals they need to be given every chance and not euthanized.

Pet euthanasia should only be used in a humane way to end suffering. It should not be used on healthy animals. We must end the pet overpopulation problem through education and expanded spay/neuter programs.

I am against euthanasia; to lessen the number animals ending up in shelters, I strongly advocate prevention--setting up neutering programs.

We need to stop the slaughter and I am for anything that will meet this goal. Raise my taxes, pass bonds, educate the public, set up foster programs, offer low cost spay and neuter, anything and everything has to be done.
