In the U.S., more cats are intentionally killed than die of any other cause. But this doesn't have to be the case. Virtually every feral cat that enters a shelter or animal control facility is killed. The very system that is supposed to care about the welfare of animals is, in fact, subjecting them to a ruthless policy of extermination.
Funded by taxpayer dollars, these inhumane programs do not effectively control cat population growth. Only one method - Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) - does.
Feral cats are born outdoors and have not been socialized. Uncomfortable around humans, they will never be comfortable living in human homes. They make homes in colonies wherever they can find food, be it in alleys or under a boardwalk. On their own without human intervention, breeding is not controlled and their numbers steadily increase.
All cats, even those born outside and having never lived with a human family, should be allowed to live the lives they deserve - outdoors, happy, healthy and prevented from becoming part of an endless cycle of breeding.
Pledge that you want the killing of feral cats to stop, then learn about the TNR method and how you can take personal action to help these cats.
I pledge to do one or more of the following:
- Call my Mayor and urge her or him to support TNR for feral cats in my town.
- Learn more about humane management of feral cat colonies by receiving information from Alley Cat Allies.
- Share what I have learned with my family and friends, so that they can also help protect feral cats.
- Become a feral cat caregiver and learn the humane Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) technique.
- Talk to my veterinarian about providing low cost spay/neuter services for feral cats.
- Write a letter to the editor of my local newspaper.

Killing kitties makes no sense, when the reason they were born in the first place is because someone negelected to have it's mom spayed. If people would take their responsibility for their animals seriously, there would be no problem with feral colonies. Also, I'm in favor of not letting kitties fend for themselves anyway. They are healthier and happier if they are inside kitties....that is if you have taken on the responsibilty of owning one. Plus, a neutered kitty tends to live longer.

What kind of harm could feral cats do? Killing them is pointless. Either find them good homes or spay/ neuter them and let them live. Why take the lives of animals who we ignorantly bred and released? If humans started it, we need to humanely fix the mess we've made.

i'd hate to see if these same people had the job of getting the homeless off the streets. Would they do everything in their power to get them inside only to take them to a room and have them killed. Instead of killing them you dopes, capture them, neuter/spay them then release them back into their society.

I love my CATS, they are all rescued. I have 7 and they all have their shots and are spayed and neutered. It doesn't take much to get so much love in return. They all hug me in the morning, and greet me at the door when I get home from work. What a joy they are in my life!

I adopted a feral cat, and she is now perfectly tame.
She is friendly, loving, and cares for everyone in my family.
Stop this cruelty and take the time to care! Bottom line: don't kill feral cats when you can love them as much as a domestsicated cat.
