Ask Congress to Give Workers RESPECT

Target: US Congress
Sponsored by: American Rights at Work
Millions of working men and women struggle every day to provide for their families. It's hard enough to form a union because of anti-union retaliation; workers shouldn't have to worry about government interference, too.

But last year, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that companies can reclassify large swaths of workers as supervisors, stripping away the rights of millions of workers to form or join a union.

The very agency that is supposed to protect a worker's basic right to form a union has once again taken away those rights.

America's workers deserve the right to have a say about their working conditions, benefits, and job safety. Only Congress has the power to restore those rights.

Please write to your Members of Congress and ask them to co-sponsor the RESPECT Act (H.R. 1644 and S. 969) and give workers the respect they deserve.

Dear [Decision Maker],

Millions of working men and women struggle every day to provide for their families. It's hard enough to form a union because of anti-union retaliation; workers shouldn't have to worry about government interference, too.

In 2006, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that companies can reclassify large swaths of workers as supervisors, stripping away the rights of millions of workers to form or join a union. The NLRB made this decision despite the fact that the new "supervisors" don't hire, fire, evaluate or promote the workers they supposedly supervise.

America's workers deserve the right to have a say about their working conditions, benefits, and job safety. You can help by co-sponsoring the RESPECT Act (H.R. 1644/S. 969), legislation that would clarify the meaning of the term "supervisor" and fix the mistake of the NLRB.

[Your comment here]

By supporting this important bill, you will be preserving the rights of millions of Americans. Please stand with us in this cause and become a co-sponsor of the RESPECT Act today.

Sincerely,

If the person is on the job, doing the job, thus, contributing to the organization, why wouldn't they be getting benefits? If it was you or someone you loved, wouldn't you want the same? Do the right thing.

Don't give in to corporate interests by allowing the reduction of the organized labor pool. We are all valuable human beings and should have a voice in deciding what a fair compensation for our labors should be. We have more influence as a group and almost no influence as individuals. If you care for humanity, you'll agree that we, the working class, need an organised voice to be able to FAIRLY negotiate working conditions with an employer. Thank you.

All of America's workers should have the right to belong to unions that represent them.

Interesting --as the power of the unions has eroded from blows like this--the rich get richer and the middle class sinks.

I have been a RN 33 years. The Charge nurse is not a functioning supervisor only in an AdHoc position. Every charge nurse has either a Head Nurse, Unit manager or other supervisory position they report to. The Charge nurses no not counsel other nurses only in-direct supervision IE making assingments and insuring all of the nursing tasks for her shift are completed.

Isn't it just common sense that those shedding sweat for the financial gain of a few at least have a say in how they and their families are compensated?

Low wages, bad conditions, etc is a thing of the past. It was SUPPOSED to be different years ago. I guess history has repeated itself...unless you can do something about it.
