Each year, thousands of sea turtles choke on plastic bags after mistaking them for jellyfish, a favorite food.
Leatherback turtles have been around for 100 million years, but if changes are not made for these turtles, they could be wiped out from the Pacific Ocean in just ten more years.
Did you know that between 4 and 5 trillion plastic bags are used each year globally, and each one can take between 500 to 1000 years to decompose?
Moreover, other sea critters like sea lions and dolphins have also been found with their stomachs filled with plastic bags!
By reducing plastic bag use and recycling or reusing plastic bags, everyone can help these ancient creatures.
Sign the pledge below to signify your commitment to reduce your plastic bag use, and add a comment to share your ideas on how.
We signed the “Save Sea Turtles from Extinction - Take the Plastic Bag Pledge” petition!

Trying to make a habit of using cloth shopping bags. Like in so many other countries. One thing I loved about Germany!

I already take all the plastic bags from my home to a local wal-mart with a plastic bag recycling place. But I will stop using them completely and let other people know about why they should do the same.

How can anyone go out into nature and trash it. It is this kind of inconsideration to Mother Nature and to fellow human beings that is destroying this planet and it's inhabitants, all creatures, great and small.

When at the beach or on a boat, I will be sure NOT to take anything plastic that could end up in the water by the wind, such a plastic bags, or soda 6 pack holders, and not fish in an area where turtles are known to be. I am also now using cloth shopping bags, and a cloth duffle bag for wet towels and clothes while on the beach or the boat.
