Let Safeway know you won't buy farmed salmon!

Human Health Concerns
In what is considered the most thorough analysis of farmed and wild salmon to date, a study released in the respected journal Science in January 2004 found that, in most cases, consuming more than one serving of farmed salmon per month could pose unacceptable cancer risks, according to United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards for determining safe fish consumption levels.
Environmental Risks
Recent research published in the internationally renowned Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences revealed that the number of sea lice on young wild salmon is higher in areas near salmon farms. The report demonstrated a link between sea lice from fish farms and the decline of certain wild salmon stocks in Canada's Pacific Ocean.
Salmon farming poses risks of disease transfer to wild fish and escapes of farmed salmon into the wild. Waste from the farms including antibiotics, pesticides and harmful chemicals are released into the ocean. Often fish farms are located directly in areas where First Nations or other communities object.
In light of these concerns and recent findings, it is difficult to understand how major retailers like Safeway continue to stock farmed salmon. If you care about your health and the environment, please sign this petition to send a free fax to Safeway. Tell Safeway that you won't buy farmed salmon until these health and environmental concerns have been met!
I am concerned the levels of toxicity are so high in the farmed salmon that you would be risking cancer by eating it only once a month!!
The Safeway company is focused solely on their own profit rather than the safety of their customers.

Aren't there enough risks in the world to our health without your adding more? A responsible food chain should care about its customers. That's the best way to keep the old ones and get new ones.

AS a provider of part of the nations food supply is within your responsibility to adhere to safety and health concerns of all of your customer so do so.

Salmon farming devastates the enviornment and poses a serious threat to wild salmon. Please support sustainable fishing.
Supporting this industry puts customers health in jeprody and our enviornment.
There is ample clear evidence of the detrimental health effects of the coloring used to give farmed salmon its characteristic color. Why would i intentionally expose myself to this risk?
There should be no need to offer any other reason for Safeway to IMMEDIATELY discontinue selling ALL farmed salmon. Any failure to do so is clear evidence of Safeway's lack of concern for the well-being of it customers.
They produce a lot of waste and aren't that healthy.

Research has shown that the risks of consuming farmed salmon far outweigh any benefits, and the risks extend to wild salmon, to the earth. It is a very dangerous practice and should be discontinued immediately.
Health reasons-- for people, for the salmon, for the earth. I refuse to buy or consume any farmed salmon and I frequently discuss it with my friends. Actually, I discuss it with strangers when the opportunity presents itself!

Farmed raised salmon dilute the genetics of the native Pacific salmon. Some have escaped from fish farms in the Pacific Northwest and established breeding populations in British COlumbia. This could be a disaster for native populations.
Selling farmed salmon encourages bad practices in the fishing community.

Salmon is one of my staple foods - but now I will be more careful, as I consume much more than the recommended "dosage" of farmed salmon.

As a long time Safeway shopper, I would very much like to be able to buy healthy food when I shop. I cannot buy farmed salmon,please do not sell this fish.

I would think Safeway would want to only sell SAFE food to their consumers!
Safeway should promote the health of its customers, as well as promoting spending by its customers, in its stores.
Farmed salmon is not safe for children and adults to consume on a regular basis. Safeway should put greater emphasis on promoting safe and healthful food for its customers to purchase.

Salmon farms pollute coastal waters and can spread parasites and diseases to wild salmon populations.
Farmed salmon contains much higher levels of contaminants (PCBs that are linked to increased rates of cancer and birth defects) than wild salmon. Please give people the choice to pollute themselves and sell wild salmon!

You risk transfering diseases to the wild fish and polluting the waters with your dumping of the pestersides and antibiotcs you use.

People think they are doing good by eating farmed salmon but do not realize the risks to health and the environment.

I am concerned about the health of my children; we eat fish quite often, usually salmon.
I usually shop at Safeway because it is convenient and I like the house brands, but my husband prefers Albertsons and has been asking me why I don't shop there. This could be a key factor that could change my shopping habits.

Safeway has sold reasonabley healthy food for years; this would change peoples opinions about safeway and hurt their reputation as a reliable food source. as it is, i dont shop there, but thats complicated.

Farming salmon is bad for the environment. I won't buy salmon unless it says it is wild.
Many people may not know orcare about the difference but I think companies should try to be ethical and sell good products.
FARM SALMON HAS NO GOOD OMEGA 3 OILS. ONLY WILD SALMON DOES. I WILL NOT BUY FARM RAISED FISH. I AM A SAFEWAY CARD HOLDER AND I HAVE CARDS FOR OTHER STORES.
FARM SALMON IS NOT HEALTHY AS NATURAL SALMON. THE U.S. IS OVERWEIGHT AND UNHEALTHY. YOUR STORE CAN DO ITS PART IN HELPING PEOPLE LIVE HEALTHIER LIVES.
I only buy wild caught Salmon in season. I am very concerned about reports of the health of the fish in fish farms, their impact on wild fish populations when they escape as well as help implications for the people who eat them.
Please do not support this dangerous enterprise.
If the farmed salmon isn't safe for consumption, then we should either stop farming it, or change the farming procedures to make the salmon safe.
If its not safe for consumption, it shouldn't be on the shelves.
Safeway's environmental and health concerns leaves a lot to be desired at best. Any doubt about that, take a tour of one of their warehouse facilities.

I will not buy any product, nautral or otherwise, which has been proven to be a threat to my family. I now go out of my way to shop for salmon at Trader Joe or Costco, where wild caught salmon is readlly available.
It is an observable fact to me that each time I go elsewhere, I develop new, non going to Safeway habitss. I also am adamant in telling my friennds to boycott farmed salmon, and find it unconscionable that Safeway cares to little about the health of families who shop there that they continue to sell it!
