An upcoming TV series, "Greatest Show on Earth", promises a "behind-the-scenes" look at the legendary Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But the real story is that Circus staff regularly abuse and torment performing elephants with bull hooks, chains and other devices.
The abuse of Ringling Bros. circus elephants -- well documented by animal welfare organizations, state humane agencies, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspectors -- violates both the federal Endangered Species Act and the Animal Welfare Act, which prohibit the abuse of endangered animals used in entertainment.
Many have witnessed routine violent abuse and cruelty toward the elephants, including frequently hitting the elephants with bull hooks, rubbing dirt into sores of elephants to conceal their wounds, and routinely chaining the elephants on concrete or in cramped rail cars for many hours of every day and night.
This kind of cruelty is not entertainment -- contact TNT and urge them to cancel the "Greatest Show on Earth" series.

I do not believe that Elephants should be kept in abnormal settings such as they are with circus life. They are chained up, have nasty bull hooks rammed into their skin to make them do as they are told. This is human dominance over the defenceless animals. Elephants are sweet natured and loving why should they have to carry out degrading circus acts to entertain the general public. We need to boycott animal circuses.

In my opinion and I'm sure I speak for many, all circuses should be banned. Why must people make a living from animal abuse? It's just not acceptable.

Knowing that these intelligent and sensitive animals are subjected to mistreatment to get them to perform is very sad and not the "entertainment" the circus promotes. No animal should be forced to live under these conditions. The best circuses are the ones that only have human performers who have chosen to do this type of work and enjoy showing off their skills. I won't patronize any animal circus and will not watch any television program about them.

I totally "condemn" it as I do not support nor go to any circuses or Ringling Bros. shows whatsoever..regardless! As I know the treatment of animals behinds all this is very cruel! Period!
