An upcoming TV series, "Greatest Show on Earth", promises a "behind-the-scenes" look at the legendary Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But the real story is that Circus staff regularly abuse and torment performing elephants with bull hooks, chains and other devices.
The abuse of Ringling Bros. circus elephants -- well documented by animal welfare organizations, state humane agencies, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspectors -- violates both the federal Endangered Species Act and the Animal Welfare Act, which prohibit the abuse of endangered animals used in entertainment.
Many have witnessed routine violent abuse and cruelty toward the elephants, including frequently hitting the elephants with bull hooks, rubbing dirt into sores of elephants to conceal their wounds, and routinely chaining the elephants on concrete or in cramped rail cars for many hours of every day and night.
This kind of cruelty is not entertainment -- contact TNT and urge them to cancel the "Greatest Show on Earth" series.

I beg you to cancel th is program and to not support Ringling Bros. in any way. I admit that I loved to see their shows when I was young up until I learned from reliable sources that their "beloved" elephants were being abused on a daily basis. Put your power to good use and condemn this barbaric practice. These magnificent and intelligent creatures don't deserve a fate as awful as this.

Please help us put a stop to this abuse. These amazing animals don't deserve to live their lives chained up and abused just so they can put on a show. Have you ever really looke at the elephants when you're at circus? They look so sad and their bodies are full of scars. God did not put these amazing animals on earth for them to be chained up and abused. They are meant to roam free in the wilderness. They can not protect themselves, it is up to us to protect them and put an end to this torture.

I have seen what has happened to these great beasts, and their treatment is extremely unfair, confining, abusive, and horrible. For some of the older circus elephants, after years of neglect, abuse, & terrible confinement, these majestic animals hit a breaking point, loose their sanity and trample humans. In the end they are shot to death for the "safety" of the humans. Elephants are highly intelligent creatures who should not and cannot be consantly abused, confined and forced to do difficult and humiliating tricks for the entertainment purposes of humans.

No animals should be part of a circus act in this day and age. In the UK it is mostly banned with a few exceptions, one of which I seen and would never go back again. What right do you have to take an animal from its natural habitat and retrain it to do tricks? This is fine with domestic animals, but when was the last time you saw an elephant curled up on someones sofa?! Get with the times! Speak up for those innocent creatures who cannot do it for themselves, but also have feelings and emotions just like you and me. And please, punish those who are cruel with the utmost force.
