Condemn the "Greatest Show on Earth"

Target: Steve Koonin, President of TNT
Sponsored by: ASPCA

An upcoming TV series, "Greatest Show on Earth", promises a "behind-the-scenes" look at the legendary Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. But the real story is that Circus staff regularly abuse and torment performing elephants with bull hooks, chains and other devices.

The abuse of Ringling Bros. circus elephants -- well documented by animal welfare organizations, state humane agencies, and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspectors -- violates both the federal Endangered Species Act and the Animal Welfare Act, which prohibit the abuse of endangered animals used in entertainment.

Many have witnessed routine violent abuse and cruelty toward the elephants, including frequently hitting the elephants with bull hooks, rubbing dirt into sores of elephants to conceal their wounds, and routinely chaining the elephants on concrete or in cramped rail cars for many hours of every day and night.

This kind of cruelty is not entertainment -- contact TNT and urge them to cancel the "Greatest Show on Earth" series.

It is sick. People who treat animals like this wind up abusing children & other people.

The whole point of going to see animals in a circus was supposed to be fun because so many of us love animals. The time to view animals in a circus as entertainment is coming to an end for many as the sad reality of how these animals are actually treated is becoming so widely known. I will never again attend a circus where elephants or other animals are part of the "entertainment"!

Dear Mr Koonin, the upcoming series, " Greatest Show on Earth", promises a behind the scenes look at the circus. but the real story is that the Circus staff regularly abuse and torment the elephants. this abuse has been well documented by animal welfare organizations for many years. Many have witness the abuse and cruelty of these majestic animals. I have not and will never bring my family to any circus events and do not consider this entertainment as it goes against any meauser of human decency. Please cancel "The Greatest Show on Earth". sincerely, M Avenia

Take a look at elephants in the wild ... see their compassion for each other, their family units, their length of life, their concern for their children and so on and then - in all good faith - say that they should be mistreated for our entertainment. Shame on you Ringling Bros.!

THIS IS DISGUSTING THAT SUCH A PROMINENT CABLE STATION WOULD SUPPORT SUCH AN INHUMAN ORGANIZATION.

torturing animals for a show is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. since when is that right? maybe these sick people need to stop thinking about the money and think about the animals that are already so great and powerful. to me seeing an elephant in its natural environment will always be better than any show.
