The Fur Products Labeling Act requires that any garment made of fur list the type of animals used and the country in which the animals were killed.
However, a loophole in the law exempts garments made with up to $150 worth of fur from being labeled.
This is bad news for consumers because without proper labeling, they don't know whether a product contains real fur or faux fur particularly when today's processing techniques can make it nearly impossible for a person to tell the difference.
And its not just scrapsanimals are killed specifically for fur trim, which is commonly exempt under the loophole. Whats more, with rabbit pelts valued at as little as $5, an unlabeled garment can easily contain fur from multiple animals.
U.S. Representatives Mike Ferguson (R-NJ) and Jim Moran (D-VA) have introduced H.R. 4904, The Truth in Fur Labeling Act of 2006, which would close this loophole.
This bill would also be an added layer of protection against any illegal dog and cat fur coming into the country as trim on unlabeled garments.
Help give consumers the right to make informed choices about whether or not to wear fur. Join the Humane Society of the United States in urging your representatives to co-sponsor the Truth in Fur Labeling Act!
We signed the “We Want Truth in Fur Labeling!” petition!

Whether it is to save animals, bring an end to the fur trade or simply provide honest and complete information to consumers all products need full labeling. Consumers have a right to know what goes into any type of product. Those of us who do not support the use of fur deserve to be fully informed and not be hoodwinked by unscrupulous manufacturers. Other than hiding the truth or duping consumers there is no other reason for not fully disclosing the fiber content of all textile products. If manufacturers will not be up front about this then we need labeling laws without loopholes.

I never want to wear fur NO MATTER WHAT! I need to know what products are made from so I can make an informed decision on what I buy.

I DO NOT BELIEVE IN WEARING FUR. Period. And when I have made a conscious decision NOT TO WEAR FURS I DO NOT WANT TO END UP WEARING THEM BY MISTAKE BECAUSE I COULDN'T TELL FAUX FUR FROM REAL FUR! THEREFORE, I DON'T WEAR FAUX FUR EITHER. If there is ANY fur at all in, or on, a garment IT SHOULD BE LABELED AS CONTAINING FUR.
If women believe wearing fur makes them beautiful, stylish, or whatever, IT DOESN'T. IT ONLY MAKES THEM LOOK CALLOUS!

As many of us are extremely against the slaughter of animals for such a selfish reason as fashion, I believe all products containing any sort and any amount of fur should be properly labeled as so.

Consumers should have a right to know what is behind any product they buy, especially when it involves loss of life. Thank you for your attention and support.

Every animals life has value and we need to remember this. We as consumers need to be aware of what all ingredients are in any product we use. Many people would not otherwise by these products if they knew animals were killed.

Along with all the issues pertaining to using fur in the clothing industry, there is the issue of allergies. I am horribly allergic to cats, of any kind, and I certainly don't want to mistakenly buy something with cat fur in it just because the labeling is not truthful.

Outstanding idea to have Truth in Fur Labeling! I never knew some garments trimmed in real fur could get away without acknowledging fur and Country of origin labels. Let's stop Coyote fur on parka jackets while we are at it!Thinking Guess and Baby Phat have been guilty of this crap in the past at least? UhOh. Named names. Apologies if incorrect except I don't think I am....
