As soon as September 27, a very special wild place could be sold to the oil and gas industry – unless we act now!
One of the most important wetland complexes in the Arctic, the Teshekpuk Lake region is essential habitat for millions of birds and tens of thousands of caribou. It is also a stunning sweep of landscape, remarkable even in Alaska where a grand scale is the only scale.
Together, we can get the Interior Department to do the only sensible thing: cancel the September 27 sale of this precious public land.

The wild unpolluted lands, wildlife and their habitats are disappearing and being ravished at an alarming rate. Instead of trying to spead up this demise, more lands, habitats, and pristine areas like Teshekpuk Lake Special Area need to protected and preserved instead of destroyed over greed.

Alaska is our last chance for saving vast areas of wilderness for our seventh generation. Please honor them by leaving Alaska's wild places alone. No amount of new oil or gas that exists beneath Alaska will solve our nation's energy crisis. Only a new, sane energy policy will do that. As Secretary of the Interior, you should consider one of your priorities to get the Energy Secretary on the right track for the future. Your job is to save the Interior, not the oil companies.

Drilling is not the answer to US energy problems and you know this. Arguments that drilling can be done without destroying the habitat are ludicrous. Look at all the "accidents". Oil companies have no incentives to "be careful". The whole world has only ONE TESHEKPUK LAKE. It belongs to the people. Do not give it away to be destroyed.
