Ban Deadly Pesticides that Kill Wildlife

Target: U.S. House of Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2
Compound 1080 and sodium cyanide are deadly poisons that are currently used to kill predators. These poisons are indiscriminate, cause extreme suffering before death, and threaten endangered species, pets, children, and anyone who happens to come in contact with them.

Compound 1080 is one of the most deadly poisons in the world. It is highly toxic in small doses and is deadly to humans, wildlife and pets, and there is no known antidote. The EPA banned compound 1080 in 1972, but intense lobbying by the livestock industry led to its re-approval for use in predator control programs in 1985.

It's time for our government to approach wildlife management in a humane and intelligent way. There is no need to use deadly poisons to "control" predators. Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR) has introduced legislation to ban these toxic chemicals - please urge your representative in Congress to support H.B. 4775, the Compound 1080 and M-44 Elimination Act, today!

Dear Representative,

I am writing to urge you to support H.B. 4775, the Compound 1080 and M-44 Elimination Act, which would ban the use of Compound 1080 and sodium cyanide.

Compound 1080 and sodium cyanide are both deadly chemicals used in predator control devices. These chemicals are indiscriminate and kill many non-target species every year, including federally protected species and pets. These chemicals are also lethal in humans and their use in predator control devices has sickened dozens of people.

There are effective non-lethal means of managing wildlife-livestock interactions. By banning the use of deadly chemicals and certain predator control devices that use them, we can focus on more humane solutions to protecting livestock from predators, and protect children, wildlife and pets from exposure to these deadly toxins.

Please support H.B. 4775 today. Thank you for considering my comments.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

Toxins and poisons do not stay in one place, for one intended use. They combine with other chemicals and toxins in bodies, foods and the environment. What hath we wrought?

The risc and danger is too big. Innocent creatures are facing horrible agonizing deaths. Family members like children or pets are exposed to these toxines. It isn't fair for anyone. Please ban the use of Compound 1080 and M-44.

I would like to stop the use of Compound 1080 and sodium cyanide that is used for predator control. I have grand kids who need a healthy planet. I agree w/ the EPA's earlier ruling that banned these types of chemicals.

It's ludicrous to allow these deadly and inhumane poisons to remain in use, we should either learn to live with the few remaining predators we haven't destroyed or seek alternative and more community friendly means of control. Please support the prohibition of these products.

Poisons are the cowardly method of animal control, the method used by the greedy who can't bear to share the Earth with it's other vital lifeforms.

The use of dangerous chemicals in an uncontrolled environment is nothing short of irresponsible and utterly archaic. Please employ your intellect to devise a better solution. Perhaps the livestock owners should start with implementing better stock management techniques. I am quite sure that the landowners knew the wildlife existed in the area BEFORE they fragmented the habitat and impaired native species from following age old routes to obtain food, water, and shelter. I am a huge advocate of farmers and ranchers--but I support farmers and ranchers who apply reason to agriculture rather than copious volatile chemicals. Please use the brain that the good Lord gave you to make sound choices for responsible land stewardship.

we share this land and we are supposed to protect the rights of animals as well. plus, all of that pesticide ends up in our land, our water, and ultimately our food!

This can also affect feral cat populations and pets.
