Greater Yellowstone Wolves Delisted - Protest Now!

Target: U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
The Bush/Cheney administration has just eliminated federal protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies, opening the door to the slaughter of hundreds of America's most beloved wolves.

This decision leaves the region's wolves at the mercy of outrageous state management plans that could lead to the killing of all but 300 wolves - eliminating 80% of all the wild wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

We need to let the Bush/Cheney administration know that we strongly oppose this decision to remove Greater Yellowstone wolves from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species.

Please sign our petition of protest and demand that the administration reverse its misguided decision and continue protecting Greater Yellowstone wolves under the Endangered Species Act.

GOOD NEWS! Court Restores Federal Protections for Wolves

wolf Over forty thousand Care2 members protested the Bush administration's decision to delist Greater Yellowstone area wolves from the Endangered Species Act in March 2008.

And on July 18, a federal judge restored endangered species protections for wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies.

This victory means that Northern Rockies states must immediately halt further killing of wolves. Already, over 100 wolves had been killed in the short time since wolves were delisted in March.

I am deeply disturbed by the federal government's decision to remove wolves in the Greater Yellowstone and Central Idaho regions from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species.

I strongly oppose the weakening of protections for these wolves and expect the federal government to fulfill its obligation to secure a lasting future in the Northern Rockies for these amazing animals.

Please accept my comments in support of continued Endangered Species Act protection for wolves in the Northern Rockies and immediately reverse this decision to delist these wolves.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

Wolves are beautiful creatures that should for no reason be harmed. Humans kill more deer than wolves do, (research shows wolves kill mostly dying caribou). Also, delisting would probably just make wolves endangered again in a short amount of time.

what the hell are they thinking letting this happen. We need to take responsibility for our actions as human beings. We have greater thinking capacity than other creatures therefore the responsibility falls on our shoulders to care for the earth and her creatures not to destroy them. Would Bush let people hunt humans because we are overpopulating the earth like a virus and causing such destruction?

President Bush, I am horrified by the federal government's decision to remove wolves in the Greater Yelowstone and Central Idaho regions from the list of federally protected threatened and endangered species. I strongly oppose the weakening of protections for wolves and fully expect the federal government to fulfill its obligation to secure a lasting future for these incredible, beautiful, courageous and amazing animals. I you have not seen the movie "Never Cry Wolf," please do. Wolves are us; we are wolves when we are at our most civilized. We have much to learn from them. Please please please immediately reverse this decision to delist these wolves. My heart bleeds. Sincerely, Rosalinda Holmes Registered, persistent and voter I never will never miss an election and the opportunity to cast my ballot.

there was so much effort to bring back the wolf populations...I don't understand why now we are sabatoging those efforts! Isn't Yellowstone supposed to be a SANCUTARY for wildlife?!!! Please, please, don't just take the "easy-out" Work harder & smarter to figure out a better solution for all - especially the WOLVES (who BELONG there - WE DO NOT!!!)

Once again the Bush administration has shown how ignorant & misinformed they are. When is government going to get in touch with reality? When it's too, too late? Most likely..........

1,545 wolves is not an ecologically sound number, they have been increasing in number because they have not reached equilibrium yet, predator populations SELF regulate, they have had a positive effect on prey animals (number of elk have actually gone up with them there) and 1,545 is nowhere near the historic levels of wolves in the Yellowstone area.

We should be working to protect diminishing wildlife for futures of generations, not working to eliminate them all together!

I am deeply disappointed that my government would make such an unintelligenet decision in regards to our precious wildlife. The reintroduction of wolves by the federal government 12 years ago has been a major success story. It has improved the natural balance in the Northern Rockies and benefited bird, antelope and elk populations. Thousands of visitors go to Yellowstone each year to see and hear wolves in the wild, contributing at least $35 million to the local economy each year. Why would the US Government spend millions of our tax dollars to re-establish this population that man decimated and then spend millions more to kill them off?

When all it takes is a yes or no from the current most powerful man in the USA, I do not understand the reasoning behind giving an answer of "No, I will not allow these animals to be protected. It is acceptable to be butchered. Never mind they've spent the last few 100 years regrouping to a shadow of their former glory..." It is a tragedy and a horrendously heartbreaking act that I cannot understand the reasoning behind. Please stop this!!!

When will the idiotic Bush/Cheney administration ever learn? To those of us outside the US who don't have these magnificient animals on our doorstep it is sickening to see them being slaughered again. I wish the US would wake up and realise they are custodians of these wonderful animals, not owners, and treat them with the respect they deserve.
