Counter Climate Crisis - Take the Pledge

Target: United States Senate
Sponsored by: Greenpeace Project Thin Ice, Greenpeace
We can't afford to wait. Already the Arctic has lost over 386,100 square miles of sea ice - an area larger than Texas - due to climate change. This fragile ecosystem, while inhospitable to human life, supports polar bears, walrus and numerous other creatures. And they are all in peril because of the effects of global warming.

Pledge to fight global warming, and call on your elected officials to limit our global warming pollution and provide strong incentives for renewable sources and energy efficiency!

Higher temperatures threaten dangerous consequences: drought, disease, floods, and the loss of precious endangered species. And amid the threat from rising oceans and extreme weather, global warningÂ’s effects have already begun.

But solutions are in sight: We know where most heat-trapping gasses come from: power plants and vehicles. And we know how to curb their emissions: modern technologies and stronger laws.

Take the Pledge to fight global warming, and we'll send your message - "Counter the Climate Crisis!" - to Congress!

Dear Senator {Name},

Global warming affects our entire planet, but it has particular impact on the delicate polar regions of the world. The effects of global warming are accelerating and ever more noticeable along the ocean shores, in arctic lands, on glaciers, and alpine plants. As a community we need to address this problem.

Today I am joining over 100,000 people in taking the following pledge to do my part to prevent a world-wide climate crisis.
“I pledge to take steps with Greenpeace to fight global warming
and call on President Bush, world leaders, Congress, and my
community to join the fight.”

I appeal to you - do what you can to fight global warming. Protect our families. Protect our future. Protect our planet.

We know the source of the climate crisis: our greenhouse gas emissions are at unsustainable levels. Higher temperatures threaten to radically alter the planet by great incidences of drought, disease and floods, as well as the loss of many endangered species. Amid the threat from rising oceans and extreme weather, global warming’s effects have already begun.

But we have solutions that are available to us. The source of the problem is the heat-trapping gases from power plants and vehicles. We must limit these greenhouse gas emissions. We must provide strong incentives for renewable sources of energy. We must become a more energy efficient nation. And we must do it without investing in unsafe, costly technologies such as nuclear power plants.

Please join with us in preventing a climate crisis.

Sincerely,

We must think about the future of our planet, which is not only OUR planet, but the home of all animals, who had nothing to do with the mess we created.

Every day more people around the world are joining the fight against Global Warming. We need our governments and leaders to hear our voice and set regulations on major industries. This will influence the industries to create new "green" ways of production, and save our planet.

GLOBAL WARMING IS THE ISSUE OF TIME. HOW WE CAN COPE WITH THIS HORRIBLE ISSUE I SUGGEST THAT THE PEOPLE LIVING ALL OVER THE WORLD TO PLANT A TREE EACH OF THEM IN THEIR AREA AT LEAST. WE CAN NOT STOP THE NEW TECNOLOGY BUT WE CAN DO IT EASILY TO MINIMISE THE "GLOBAL WORM".WE SHOULD CONDEMN THE USE OF BILOGICAL ARMAMENTS BY SOME WARING FACTIONS IN ALL OVER THE WORLD. WE SHOULD CRY AGAINST THE "INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM WITH OUR FULL FORCE.

we cannot continue on the course we have been on. Ice caps are melting at an alarming rate. This causes drastic changes in our weather patterns. I have worked on enviornmental issues since January,2001. It is real and it is a crisis.

time will run out for not only the world's animals, but us too if we don't at least try to slow down global warming. We have only 20 more years to save it all.
