America's Veterans Deserve Adequate Medical Care

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
Service members fighting for our country shouldn't have to worry about their families' health care. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive these heroes of the health care they need and deserve. Help protect service members' access to doctors!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Please don't stop here. Click for more opportunities to make a difference.
Dear [Decision maker],

On behalf of America's service members and their families, I strongly urge you to stop Medicare doctor payment cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for service members to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

I support the Wounded Warrior program. We must stand behind our military after they come home and make sure they are taken care of. My grandson just came back from Iraq after serving a year active duty U.S. Army. He is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. He will never be the same. He is a lucky one of the lucky ones that got to come back home in one piece. We MUST take care of our soldiers!!!!!!

What happened to the promised to have medical care for life for the veterans? Senate has one of the best plans there is - maybe we should take their plan and retire away and let them life like the rest of us.

We've asked these men and women to risk their lives for us, why can't some of the billions and billions spent on the "War on Terror" be spent at home????

Our soldiers have enough to worry about on the battlefield, they shouldn't have to worry about things back home. God bless them.

If we're going to require servicemen to fight, then we are morally obligated to take care of their/their family's medical needs. Are we becoming as morally bankrupt a nation as our detractors claim?

All this talk about "supporting the troops", when all that means is supporting what politicians tell the troops to do! If you REALLY want to support the troops, give them the medical care they deserve!
