America's Veterans Deserve Adequate Medical Care

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
Service members fighting for our country shouldn't have to worry about their families' health care. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive these heroes of the health care they need and deserve. Help protect service members' access to doctors!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Please don't stop here. Click for more opportunities to make a difference.
Dear [Decision maker],

On behalf of America's service members and their families, I strongly urge you to stop Medicare doctor payment cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for service members to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

Vets put their lives on the line for this country. The very least we should do is provide them with adequate healthcare!

As Vets many in congress should endorse proper medical care for the military and their families. It is just the right thing to do.

All veterans and their families deserve access to quality medical care. It is not right that someone risks their life for their country and can't get quality medical treatment.

You're going to see soldiers coming back with PTSD and other mental health problems after this war. And in the end, what did we solve? We only created more pain, more innocent victims, and it was all at the expense of young men & women's lives. The people who advocate war are too afraid to fight...they just hand it off to poor people to do. You don't see rich kids fighting there. Respect our soldiers after victimizing them with this useless war. It is not a war on terror. It is a war of terror.

As a Canadian I have always been amazed at how your medical system works. Now you expect your service people to go and leave their families and put their lives on the line all with little or no medical coverage. What a HORRENDOUS way to treat the families of those who don't come home. Please look at what you're doing! There's no shame in admitting you were wrong and need help. Send fact finders up to Canada and I know our medical system tho not perfect will help you to overhaul yours. So many die for lack of care in your country. One could almost call that murder!
