America's Veterans Deserve Adequate Medical Care

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
Service members fighting for our country shouldn't have to worry about their families' health care. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive these heroes of the health care they need and deserve. Help protect service members' access to doctors!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Please don't stop here. Click for more opportunities to make a difference.
Dear [Decision maker],

On behalf of America's service members and their families, I strongly urge you to stop Medicare doctor payment cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for service members to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

We elist to protect our country and that means you too of course! We were drafted to protect our country and that too means you too of course!! We give away our rights to protect our country and of course that means protecting you as well!!! We give up our freedom to protect our country and you know what that means of course. We fight, have our bodies shot to pieces, blown to bits, broken physically and mentally only to be turned down for medical help after all of that!!! Why? Tell us all why we should reenlist to protect a country that shuns us after so much terror and bloodshed? Why??? We spend years of our lives to try to protect this country! We come back all broken, mentally and physically only to be turned down for the medical attention that we must have. To be treated like useless animals even by veteran surgeons and nurses! Why? Todays Vets needs help more than anyone after they go through such an ordeal so please do not make them suffer even more after the horror they go through!!!??? It is terrible to have to run all day long and be shot at and also to see little children tortured, maimed, and also of course trained by their own people to fight like grown men. To fight in such terrible condtions that our people are not used to, intense heat, humidity! Then of course after they spend their tour only to be recalled even after they are told that they will have to never return to the misery! What kind of treatment is it to ruin our people after they give soooo much? I think it a shame to do that to anyone after they give their lives to us even though they do not even know who we are, just blind faces we are to them and this is how we treat them? Shame!!! Shame on our country!!!!! Keep the medical supplies, doctors and Psycologist on hand please!!!??? They do need and deserve the help after going through such hard times!!!

If our vice president -- a man who managed, through repeated draft deferments, to avoid serving in his country's armed forces altogether -- is promptly and frequently treated by some of the top medical professionals in the country, why should those men and women who did their duty, often at enormous personal risk during time of war, be forced to accept such a shamefully inequitable level of care?

Veterans should be grandfathered to remain under the old policy by not having their doctor payments subject to the new payment cuts. Veterans have laid their lives on the line for our country and should be provided and entitled to the best medical benefits by the government that are equal to or even superior to the best medical insurance plan coverages that are provided to private industry, federal, state, and city employees. There should be no debate regarding top notch medical benefits policy for veterans.

Lord knows I don't have the courage our Very BRAVE troops do and I thank GOD he created these very couragous people for which without we would be under constant attack on our soil. I would hope that their service, dedication, and the tremendous risk not only they are taking every day but their families are also risking losing their most dear loved ones would be Honored. They are not being honored if they have to justify and fight (sic) for the right to medical benefits for themselves and their families. This is a disgrace to me as a patriotic American. It makes me so sick to my stomach that our country could put our soldiers in Hell and then turn their backs on them in ANY time of need. Maybe you need to remember that if couragous people don't continue to step up in a time of need there will be drafts put forth and anyone, your son rich or upper middle clas could very well be in their position. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!!!!!!!! If this is not a game of bait and switch then Prove your loyalty. If you care you would understand their position and do whatever it takes to make sure their devotion to their country is returned to them when they need it most!
