America's Veterans Deserve Adequate Medical Care

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
Service members fighting for our country shouldn't have to worry about their families' health care. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive these heroes of the health care they need and deserve. Help protect service members' access to doctors!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Please don't stop here. Click for more opportunities to make a difference.
Dear [Decision maker],

On behalf of America's service members and their families, I strongly urge you to stop Medicare doctor payment cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for service members to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

I grew up in the Navy. My father was present at Pearl Harbor and retired after 31 years of active service. The Navy provided excelent medical care throughout his life until he passed away in 1999. Now I'm retired, with an HMO type insurance. I love my primary care MD but have been told that he will no longer accept my insurance because of low reimbursncement. Surely, we as a nation, should provide better care for the young men whose lives are altered because of their devotion to their country.

It's every American's right. They fought for it. They deserve it. Congress and the President should have their medical coverage cut instead of brave service men and women.

with the shortage of staff right now, it is difficult to get the promised health care. many of the military families depend on thepromise of health care. taking that away is like giving them a major pay cut. they have earned this health care and it should continue.

Our service men and women are one of this country's most important resources. They deserve our care and protection as they risked their lives and health for ours.

These people have put everything on the line for their country, sometimes many times. The Congress and the senate have awesome plans simply because they have the gift of Pontification. There is something fundamentally wrong with this picture.

Our soldiers, sailors, and airmen (and their families) deserve the best medical treatment available. I know from personal experience it is already difficult for some military members to get treatment "on-base", and the list of doctors who accept Tricare is becoming shorter all the time. Please do not cut payments to Doctors who proudly serve military families.

We need to safeguard medical assistance where it already exists, not restrict it out of reach.

The state of health care in the US is dismal for too many people. To make the situation worse for people who serve our country in the military is obscene.
