America's Veterans Deserve Adequate Medical Care

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Medical Association Patients' Action Netw
Service members fighting for our country shouldn't have to worry about their families' health care. But millions of military patients and their families are already having trouble finding physicians. Since TRICARE, the military insurance plan for active and retired military members and their families, is tied to Medicare, future doctor payment cuts will cause even greater harm to their health care quality. Unless Congress acts now, future doctor payment cuts will deprive these heroes of the health care they need and deserve. Help protect service members' access to doctors!

Success! With bi-partisan majorities in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, Congress over-turned the president’s veto of Medicare doctor payment cuts on July 15, 2008.

Please don't stop here. Click for more opportunities to make a difference.
Dear [Decision maker],

On behalf of America's service members and their families, I strongly urge you to stop Medicare doctor payment cuts.

Medicare doesn't even reimburse doctors at a level equal to the cost of treating patients. And, recent reports predict that the government will cut the rates further - by 10 percent in 2008, and a whopping 40 percent by 2015!

Past cuts have made it more difficult for service members to find a doctor. Future doctor payment cuts will force doctors to limit the number of new Medicare patients they treat, will make it more difficult to find surgical and medical specialists and will force seniors to travel greater distances for medical care.

I was in the Army for 8 years and served in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and had many struggle upon returning. I asked for help and received none, because my unit did not "have the budget" to send me to the help I needed. I was discharged with no benefits for me and my family

Come on... they can fight for us but we can't take care of them after? They need the best health care available upon returning from war, this shouldn't even be an issue

This is a no-brainer. It goes without saying, that medical care should be provided to the men and women who step up to defend our country. There shouldn't be any question about providing them with medical care.

When even those who have served in our countries armed services cannot get adequate medical care there is something seriously wrong with our government.

It is beyond my comprehension that payment to doctors that are servicing the people that have put their LIVES on the line is going to be cut! As it is, our veterans get care that is bordering on the substandard, putting the medical professionals that take care of them under a great deal of stress. What would possess someone to even contemplate properly reimbursing these personnel? Please, I urge you to seriously reconsider the plan to reduce their payment, as it is foolhardy AT BEST.

Medical care for our military should be improved for obvious reasons. Improved coverage would also encouage men and women to enroll in our armes forces and possibly re enlist. We need increased psych care for those currently serving and following discharge VA nurse

You send our families out to fight in wars, but then don't want to help them or protect them when they get injured protecting us?! What is wrong with this picture?! I am an ex-Navy wife, a Navy sister (whose brother is buried in Bushnell Nat'l Cemetary), a Navy niece, an Army niece, a Navy cousin, an Air Force daughter-in-law, a Navy Aunt, & an Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine friend and and I am disgusted by the way this country treats our Veterans. It's about time you paid for the services our family and friends offer by way of protecting us through the night while we sleep. Get off your high horse and pay for the medical needs of our Veterans and Military Service people!

Honor the promise the government made to the service men and women of America. I hope that you can find the same sense of duty and responsibility that you expect from those in uniform within yourself. Would you expect anything less from our members of the Armed Forces?

Every day America's service members put their life on line for our country - the least that should be done is to provide them and their families with the best of care- Status - active, retired,ANG, reserve, should not be a factor in who gets the best medical care!!!!

And we boast about our military prowess and greatness as a country. How shameful that we do not take responsibility for these vets when they return home damaged by the policies we instigated.
