Target:U.S. Senate; House of Representatives Sponsored by:Sunlight Network
This year, Congress is on track to spend the least amount of time in session of any Congress since 1948. So far, the House of Representatives has scheduled a mere 88 days in session.
What are Members of Congress doing, if not their
jobs? Here's a not-so-outlandish guess: When not doing the people's business, Congressmen and Senators are spending many of their hours meeting with lobbyists and raising money.
Unfortunately, we don't know, because lawmakers aren't required to clock in or post timesheets. And yet they work for us, to the tune of $162,500 a year, plus generous pensions and health plans. Most of the rest of us punch a clock, and we think they should, too.
Enter the Punch Clock Campaign of the Sunlight Network.
We are asking Congress and FEC-qualified candidates to commit to putting their daily schedule on the internet, within 24 hours after the end of each
day. That way we'll be able to check in with them, and they'll strengthen their relationship with us.
Ready to get your elected representatives on the clock? Take the first step and sign the petition!
We signed the “Get Your Members of Congress on the Punch Clock” petition!

The voting public has a right to know what congressmen are doing all day. We need accountability!

We need to know just how much time our representatives spend being wined and dined by lobbyists; and having their arms twisted by Karl Rove and corporate interest groups. {Luckily, I know that MY anti-Iraq-war-from-the-beginning Representative is quite honest and truly DOES represent me and my best interests!}

I respect and appreciate the elected officials who represent me and my needs. I do believe this program will enable the American people to have more faith and trust in our government.

I think all reps need to have their schedules online. Joe Average citizen works a grilling 8 to 12 hours a day for a pitance compared to a rep's salary. It sounds like the rep's are taking advantage of the little guy, living it up whilst the rest of us slog away trying to make ends meet. It's shameful and unfair to get so much for doing so little time on the job!

A petion to get elected officials to do their jobs should be unnecessary. How can they govern if they are not present for votes? Like the rest of working America, our representatives need to show up in order to recieve their paychecks.

It amazes me that our Congress is taking President Bush's lead in doing the least of any elected officials in over 50 years. Terrorists attack, hurricanes strike, multiple wars are waged but these are not good enough reasons to work more hours than the infamous Do-Nothing Congress?

Dear U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, It must be nice to have a job where you make lots and lots of money and you only have to work 1/4 of the year. If you work more than that, we sure would like to know. It is good when you know how much time is being worked for what you are paying. Each of us that does have to account for our time is paying for your salary.

This is so embarassing but I had a Congresswoman that "forgot" to show up to work for six months--she was busy and disbarred!
