Target:U.S. Senate; House of Representatives Sponsored by:Sunlight Network
This year, Congress is on track to spend the least amount of time in session of any Congress since 1948. So far, the House of Representatives has scheduled a mere 88 days in session.
What are Members of Congress doing, if not their
jobs? Here's a not-so-outlandish guess: When not doing the people's business, Congressmen and Senators are spending many of their hours meeting with lobbyists and raising money.
Unfortunately, we don't know, because lawmakers aren't required to clock in or post timesheets. And yet they work for us, to the tune of $162,500 a year, plus generous pensions and health plans. Most of the rest of us punch a clock, and we think they should, too.
Enter the Punch Clock Campaign of the Sunlight Network.
We are asking Congress and FEC-qualified candidates to commit to putting their daily schedule on the internet, within 24 hours after the end of each
day. That way we'll be able to check in with them, and they'll strengthen their relationship with us.
Ready to get your elected representatives on the clock? Take the first step and sign the petition!
We signed the “Get Your Members of Congress on the Punch Clock” petition!

Why your working schedule on-line? It's logical. You have a schedule, why not make it public. We, your constituents, have a right to know.

It is time for Congress to be accountable to their boss, the American people. "Punching the Clock" is a good way for you to show us exactly what you did for us today, it allows us to see you producing the changes you promised during your campaign and it creates accountability for your actions. It is my opinion that hiding behind National Security concerns is simply an attempt to avoid responsibility for your action or non-action, as the case may be. In closing, I find your complete lack of communication to your constituents unacceptable especially considering the diverse channels open to you today.

I support the idea of this campaign, but who is going to make sure they are being honest on their time cards? Also, how many of us regular employees get to give ourselves a raise every year?

I support this campaign. It is not right that members of Congress and/or the House vote themselves big raises, especially considering the number of hours they put in.
I believe we need some radical changes in our country. The balance of power is not working as it should. The government has gotten way too big and uncontrollable. Here they are supposed to represent us and most of what I see is a lot of smoke and mirrors. I feel our government has really lost touch with the average American and it is very sad
