Target:U.S. Senate; House of Representatives Sponsored by:Sunlight Network
This year, Congress is on track to spend the least amount of time in session of any Congress since 1948. So far, the House of Representatives has scheduled a mere 88 days in session.
What are Members of Congress doing, if not their
jobs? Here's a not-so-outlandish guess: When not doing the people's business, Congressmen and Senators are spending many of their hours meeting with lobbyists and raising money.
Unfortunately, we don't know, because lawmakers aren't required to clock in or post timesheets. And yet they work for us, to the tune of $162,500 a year, plus generous pensions and health plans. Most of the rest of us punch a clock, and we think they should, too.
Enter the Punch Clock Campaign of the Sunlight Network.
We are asking Congress and FEC-qualified candidates to commit to putting their daily schedule on the internet, within 24 hours after the end of each
day. That way we'll be able to check in with them, and they'll strengthen their relationship with us.
Ready to get your elected representatives on the clock? Take the first step and sign the petition!
We signed the “Get Your Members of Congress on the Punch Clock” petition!

We(the overburdend taxpayers) deserve the right to have you report your work hours to the public, each and every day within 24hours, either having it published in the newspapers as well as TV, and radio, plus the internet. Please see if you can't help get some ethics in congress...
Thanks,
Jack L Lester

I think that this is a great idea. I also think that the information provided would not be factual.

I sure wish I could only work 1 and 1/2 days a week and still get paid for 5 days. Take your jobs seriously and handle this nations biggest issues, now.

I believe they are delegating too much of their responsibility to employees and become totally unavaliable. Also too much influence is given to professional influencers for biased interests.

I feel like they should all be accountable for their time spent, especially when they keep giving themselves, closed door raises....Take away their big pay & see how many are left, working for the People...

Rather than keeping them in session and away from everything else, I'd rather require that they spend time creating interactive town hall meetings with their constituents; not making speeches, but listening, and finding out what they think and want, and getting their opinions on specific issues, and then either voting with those views in mind, or losing their seat in the next election. http://www.petitiononline.com/realdemo/petition.html

Everyone is supposed to work, an account for their income. It's that way for everyone, no matter where or who you submit your services to !
