Tell Automakers Why You Want Green Cars Today

Target: CEOs of world's six largest automakers, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Nissan, Toyota
Sponsored by: The Center for a New American Dream
The need for fuel-efficient cars has never been greater. With just four percent of the world's population, the United States consumes a quarter of global oil consumption; U.S. passenger vehicles alone guzzle 10 percent of the world's oil! We spent $250 billion on this oil habit last year alone, and as a result we're less secure, more polluted, and economically weaker.

Existing technology such as advanced hybrid engines could dramatically decrease our oil consumption -- if only more automakers would grasp the urgency of the situation and incorporate efficient technology in many more vehicles.

Think about the people, places, and things that would be better off if automakers do their part to help us break our oil dependence and transition to a more sustainable future. Then encapsulate these images into your favorite art form, or just a simple note, and add that to this petition. We'll deliver your comments and images to Detroit and Tokyo. We want Bill Ford, Rick Wagoner, and the other CEOs to truly grasp what's at risk... and to respond.

Dear Automakers,

The attached photos, drawings, poems, and pleas represent the people, places, and things we most treasure who are jeopardized by a "business as usual" approach to energy use. Please pause and deeply consider what is at stake here, then show leadership in publicly committing to bring far more efficient vehicles to market.

Sincerely,

The undersigned
We signed the “Tell Automakers Why You Want Green Cars Today” petition!

When refrigerators were invented, the "ice box" companies ignored the threat. Today there are no ice box companies. We are running out of oil, but you ignore the future wanting to keep the same-old, same-old until the last drop is used. Why? Most car companies, especially those in America, have to beg customers to buy their cars with gimiks and show a profit loss in their ignorance. If you won't go green to protect our future, then do so to protect your future. Put your resources where the future is going. If you produce cars that use 1/2 the oil used by current cars, you protect your future for twice as long. Produce cars that use 1/10th the oil and protect your future for ten times as long. And if you use low toxic and reuseable materials you will re-earn the respect of your customers. Wake up. Help our Country, help the environment and help save your own investments by making cars more green. The age of waste is over. Partner with those that are concerned about our world. It just makes good business sense.

We need green cars soon! If we do not find greener options now there will be great problems in the future. I urge you to create green cars so that our children can have a future.

"I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me." (Matthew 25:43-45) Contained within every evil(greedy profiteering republican) act are the seeds of its own destruction. Clean air is something we can no longer take for granted. Green cars will be far more profitable as there is a demand. My next car has to be a green car.

Green cars is the way of the future. We all know that fossilized fuels will run out within the near future, and in addition they pollute our environment in a way that is not sustainable for the future. It's necessary that automakers take responsibility for the environment as well.

I specifically want Chevy to green-up trucks. My dad is an autoparts store owner and has the highest respect for the quality and safety of Chevy trucks, but they are horrible for the environment. I respect my father's opinions greatly, but I will have to choose another company when purchasing my next car if Chevy can't meet my needs in the environmental debates.
