Save Tasmania's Forests!

Target: John Gay, CEO, Gunns Limited
Sponsored by: Rainforest Action Network
Australia's island state of Tasmania is home to unique ecosystems that contain some of the Earth's most incredible plants and animals, including the world's tallest hardwood trees and ancient old-growth forests.

Tragically, these global treasures are being destroyed by the logging company GUNNS LIMITED. Gunns cuts down more than 40 football fields of pristine old-growth forests everyday, then firebombs the clear-cut land with napalm, and poisons the surviving wildlife with 1080, a toxin banned in many countries. Streams are polluted, 400 year old trees destroyed, habitats incinerated, and threatened species killed.

Please join us now in the fight to save Tasmania's incredible forests:
TELL GUNNS LTD. TO STOP ITS DESTRUCTION OF TASMANIAN FORESTS AND WILDLIFE!
deadline: 8-28-2007
goal: 50,000

Save the forest. Stop human overpopulation and we won't need all of this logging for houses. Wise up before it's too late.

The 21st century and we still haven't lost the ability to destroy. The Tasmanian forest needs protecting.

Cutting down old growth forests is criminal. Indian Hemp makes the best paper and clothes in the world. It's obvious that money is the only motif. Remember we can't eat money.

Not only is this destroying wildlife habitat, it is reducing the planet's ability to absorb the carbon dioxide we are spewing out. This worsens the climate crisis.

Tourism in Tasmania is really big & nothing rots tourists socks more than seeing clearfell. When they tell their friends back home, its the worst PR for Tasmanian tourism. Tasmanians are cutting themselves off at their feet by wiping out vast tracts of this unique old growth forest eco-tourism resource. What are future generations going to say about us letting Gunns do this?

Now that we're living in the 21st Century with all its attendant technological advancements, why are we being held "hostage" to the big polluting end of town? Why are we not demonstrating clever leadership in one of the few remaining vestiges of clean, green island states? Why are we not encouraging/creating non-polluting investment opportunities to this gorgeous state of ours? The questions are infinite...our environment and community isn't.

The adverse environmental impact of its toxins on air and water quality, as well as native and endangered wildlife will be devastating. There is more to life than profitmaking, and it's called QUALITY OF LIFE. You have to ask, whom would this benefit? It's not the general public that Gunns has in mind, nor future generations.

This is going to completely ruin Tasmania's 'Clean Green' image by polluting our oceans (fish don't taste so good after being infused with toxic chemicals), destroying more of our old growth forests as well as using the many plantations they already have, and polluting the heavily populated Tamar Valley, an area already affected by pollution. This is not about being against the forest industry, it's about democracy and protection for future generations growing up in Tasmania.

Haven't these greedy bastards destroyed enough of Tasmaina's old growth forests, yet and come up with the outcome that it does not benifit anyone in the long term?!?! especially Tasmainans! Kick these bloody idiots out! Good on you 60mins for airing this enviromental disaster waiting to happen.

We need every tree to count to help offset our emissions. When was the last time anyone from Gunns took a walk alone through a forest and discovered its magic? More workers are needed in the field of sustainable energy.

Our environment and wildlife are unique, many species endemic. We must preserve the very little wilderness we have left for future generations and right now, please stop this devastation.

Tasmania has some of the last clean green wilderness forests in the world. Plantations do not replace them. Eco systems take thousands of years to create. Tasmania is famous around the world. Leave it alone.
