The EPA has recommended a veto for the Yazoo Pumps Project - a plan proposed by the Army Corps of Engineers to build the world's largest hydraulic pumping plant in the middle of Mississippi.
An EPA veto of this harmful plan would protect over 200,000 acres in an area containing some of the richest natural resources in the nation.
Take Action! Tell EPA Administrator Johnson that you support a veto of the Yazoo Pumps plan.Learn more here.

Its about time that the EPA do something that makes economic and ecologic sense! This expensive boondoggle would destroy more than 200,000 acres of precious wetlands, while costing taxpayers 220 million dollars!!! The Bush Administration should take the 220 million dollars saved and spend it towards securing purchase of threatened wetland ecosystems throughout the southeast and include them in the National
Wildlife Refuge System!!!

As the eminent scientist E. O. Wilson said in a talk recently, Habitat Destruction is the worst threat to biodiversity. We can't afford the habitat destruction that the Yazoo Pumps would cause. Please do not let this project go forward.

I support the veto because the financial investment is not worth it and it is a step backward on the environment. It's a waste of taxpayer's money.

I support you and the EPA's intention to veto this project. It is a type of project that would cause irreversible damage to wildlife and the whole wetlands environment. I support efforts to addres flooding concers with smaller and more appropriate solutions. Thank you.

Wetlands provide protection from catastrophic weather events. Preserve wetlands, protect humans from destruction by wind and water.

Wetlands serve a crucial ecological function. Please don't increase any further their disappearance with this expensive, unnecessary project. I urge the EPA to focus on water conservation and maintenance of natural hydrological systems in Mississippi and the rest of our country.

One of our responsibilities and privileges as human beings is to care for the earth and share its resources. This project would do neither.

Dear Administrator Johnson,
I support your initiation of a veto of for the Yazoo Backwater Pumping Plant project. I also urge you to finalize that veto as soon as possible. The Yazoo Pumps would cause harm to the ecologically significant wetlands in the heart of the Mississipi River.
Your agency concluded that the Yazoo Pumps would damage more than nine times the wetlands damaged by private developers nationwide.
The U.S. Fish and WildlifeService and the Department of Interior have concluded that the Yazoo Pumps would cause extended damage to the environment and wildlife in the region.
I urge you to to veto this destructive project.
Sincerely,
Livia Rimka

I believe we, as humans, have a responsibility to be responsible tenants of this planet, since we are the race that has the most potential for damaging it. Please know that this is the proper course for making sure we are responsible--by opposing such a heinous plan that would benefit only a few.
