Think your commute is bad now? Add a million more people to the equation and we might have a transportation meltdown! We need a plan that will keep New York City moving, make public transportation faster and more reliable, cut traffic and reduce air pollution and global warming emissions. And now we have that plan: a modified congestion pricing program.
Tell your state legislators to pass congestion pricing and reduce traffic, cut commute times, and fund public transportation across all neighborhoods.
We signed the “Want a Faster, More Reliable Commute?” petition!

When you cross the street you take your life in your hands, because everyone is in a big hurry to get where they`re going. There is a lot of impatience and when the light is changing or you are crossing the street at a slower pace than is acceptable to some drivers, they hunk their horn or curse you out.
During the Xmas holidays, the amount of traffic with the fumes included detracted from the holiday spirit.
We need to have a balance where cars are not the dominating force on the streets.

The city is way too congested, not good for health and quality of life. Truck deliveries should be at night and there should be ample parking outside of manhattan with access to public transportation. It's way past time to do it. It works in London, should work here

A prohibitive toll system for entering NYC that favors only non-polluting hybrid/electric/ alternative fuel vehicles, including delivery trucks. Entire streets/intersections/areas must be set aside for pedestrian/bicycle traffic only. More elevators are essential for subway system. All busses need to be non-polluting.

Absolutely we need congestion pricing in New York City. This city is more pedestrian-friendly than most American cities - which is only to say that other American cities need transit reform even more urgently.
Traffic should be reduced, sidewalks should be widened, public transit should be expanded and improved. Traffic lanes should be reduced and more bicycle lanes put in place.
Taxes and tariffs should be put in place for drivers entering and leaving the city. These should be higher for single-occupant and oversized vehicles. Also much higher taxes on gasoline should be used to fund public transit. Finally, increased street parking rates should be used to fund transit, and all street-level parking lots should be closed as an eyesore.
All of this would go a long way towards making the city more livable and more environmentally responsible.
Regards,
Zenon M Feszczak

I don't believe people of low to moderate income should have to pay a fee to enter the city by car as long as they have no other reasonable option. Once public transportation that is at least as usable and affordable for them as car ownership has become available, then yes, a fee would make sense. On the other hand, I think there should be a fee right now for private drivers who want to enter the city in anything bigger than a midsize car. The number of SUVs in our city is insane, especially when you consider how many of them are driven by a single person. I grew up in a California suburb; our family included my parents, three kids, and a large dog, and we never needed anything bigger than a station wagon even for road trips with the whole gang, so why would a NYC commuter need an SUV? For low-income people who own outsize vehicles, maybe there should be an incentive program, a trade-in with subsidy to get a smaller car that would accommodate their family and cost them less in fuel. Maybe even hybrid. But I don't support across the board congestion pricing without these accommodations for lower incomes: that's regressive tax in disguise. And the subways in poorer neighborhoods should be as clean, safe, and convenient as those in rich ones!

The subway system has already proven that NYC can run on public transportation. But we need the funds to keep it growing as the city does. Every day I see SUVs with only one person clogging Manhattan's streets and air. Congestion pricing will alleviate pollution and traffic, raise funds for the subway, and in no way impede Manhattan's booming commerce.

Our public transportation is falling apart at the seams. We need adequate funding for repairs and improvements so the MTA doesn't keep raising fares and charging the riders more money for less reliable service as is currently the case.

Traffic here is: choking, noisy, clogged, polluting, destructive, unhealthy, wasteful. In some places, it's almost chaos, where vehicles overwhelm the road, ramp and lanes. Something must be done. Bloomberg has the right idea, for the most part. Let's get it done already.

I have llived in NYC for many decades. The air pollution catastrophe caused allergic asthma which devistated my well being as well as financial losses. Asthma meds about ten times a day. Finally, I moved away to a community without industrial pollution and have not needed any medications since I left NYC, which is obvious I can never travel anywhere close to that territory. This is a crisis of major proportions, which is not a choice, it is essential to remedy same.

I agree with Kathleen Reilly and others that have commented. A program that encourages public transportation will cut down pollution as well as congestion. Business/public policy must encourage improved public transportation, safe bicycle paths, on-time connecting buses, trains and subways.

Let's set up a program that encourages public transportation, cutting down the pollution as well as the congestion. It should include all out business/public policy encouragement toward improved public transportation, safe bicycle paths, on-time connecting buses, trains and subways. You'll need a general to oversee all!
