Show the Candidates the Many Faces of Climate Change

Target: U.S. Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: 1Sky

The debate is over -- the National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists agree that the planet is warming. Now it's time to make the effects of global warming real for the presidential candidates.

Is global warming putting you and your community at risk for floods or hurricanes? Is it making water more scarce? Sign the petition, and let the presidential candidates know!

After a decade of stalling, we need real leadership on climate change:

  • Job creation in a clean energy economy.
  • A moratorium on building new coal-fired power plants.
  • The reduction of emissions levels in scale with what the science demands.

Tell the candidates what global warming means to your community and tell them to commit to be climate leaders in 2008 and beyond.

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 25,000

Dear [Decision Maker]

The debate is over. The National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists worldwide agree that the planet is warming and that human dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and oil is the primary cause. If we do not act quickly and boldly, we will face irreversible and potentially devastating climate change impacts. There is still time to rise to the challenge, but America needs strong leadership to do so.

We need to:

* Create 5 million green jobs, conserving 20% of our energy by 2015.
* Freeze climate pollution levels now and cut at least 80% by 2050 and 25% by 2020.
* No new coal plants that emit global warming pollution. Invest in renewable energy.

I want to know that all the candidates take the threat of global warming as a very high priority, and that the rape of our conservation laws will be ended. Also, that Clean Air and Water standards will be strengthened immediately - not within 15 years, and the American people will be educated as to the need for everyone to comply and cooperate!

The constant threat of tornadoes year round. Confused birds, plants and animals. Hotter summers. More allergies. Resistance to bacterias. (Thank you by the way for injecting our food supply with genetic modified organisms and antibiotics.) Flowers blooming in the winter. No more lightening bugs, less turtles, honey bees dying off. Stronger growth of poison ivy. (Thanks to hotter summers.) You name we got it here in the south. I know my friends in other countries across the world have worse enviromental issues. You better start doing something. You can laugh at the masses who are waking up and NOT believing your lies anymore but it is Mother Nature you will have to deal with in the end. Ever been in a hurricane? A tornado? I have. How about it when these violents storms hit your backyards? I wouldn't wish it on anyone but it can and will happen. Mother Nature has a very delicate ecosystem. When this becomes unbalanced she tries to re-balance. First thing is to get rid of the offending species ?Guess who that is? We need to ALL work together to heal the earth. Not destroy it!!!

Our very way of life is at stake. We have stopped being a resourceful society and become a disposable society. As the leader of the country it is your responsibility to take us in a better direction. It is obvious that the wastefullness has only created dissatisfacion, laziness, irresponsibility, apathy, and unrealistic expectations. It is time to turn around the way we as Americans think by once again becoming "pioneers" of the future. Through innovation, work, respect, and a sense of community we can make the necessary changes.

The way you politicians are screwing around, it is time to reassess priorities. If Global Warming is ignored, we soon won`t have a country to defend let alone a world. Let`s get our people OUT of Iraq and start using the money to save the world, not just one country!

Global warming is hurting our world. We have to do something about it now before it's too late.

Climate Change is already here and there are some people who refuse to believe it. Well "BELIEVE IT" and if you don't look and take steps to stop it from happening even more. It will get worse. This is a time for the people to act. The Government sure isn't doing it and if they are. It is so slow that when the Government does something, we will be dead. How's that for TRUTH?
