Show the Candidates the Many Faces of Climate Change

Target: U.S. Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: 1Sky

The debate is over -- the National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists agree that the planet is warming. Now it's time to make the effects of global warming real for the presidential candidates.

Is global warming putting you and your community at risk for floods or hurricanes? Is it making water more scarce? Sign the petition, and let the presidential candidates know!

After a decade of stalling, we need real leadership on climate change:

  • Job creation in a clean energy economy.
  • A moratorium on building new coal-fired power plants.
  • The reduction of emissions levels in scale with what the science demands.

Tell the candidates what global warming means to your community and tell them to commit to be climate leaders in 2008 and beyond.

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 30,000

Dear [Decision Maker]

The debate is over. The National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists worldwide agree that the planet is warming and that human dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and oil is the primary cause. If we do not act quickly and boldly, we will face irreversible and potentially devastating climate change impacts. There is still time to rise to the challenge, but America needs strong leadership to do so.

We need to:

* Create 5 million green jobs, conserving 20% of our energy by 2015.
* Freeze climate pollution levels now and cut at least 80% by 2050 and 25% by 2020.
* No new coal plants that emit global warming pollution. Invest in renewable energy.

Golbal warming is not a problem just for me or my community. It's a problem for the whole world. The planet is always changing. Therefor the climate always changes. But our problem is that we are still stuck in the stone age using fossil fuels. That causes harm to us and our planet. We need to cut back on our use of the fossil fuels. ( The truth is we need to stop using fossil fuels.) We have to many other options to use for energy, besides fossil fuel. What we need is a government body that will listen to the people, work for the people. If we are not willing to make changes, then there will be more problems with the climate.

If we do not change our way of living on the earth dramatically and rapidly, survival of the species, and of most higher forms of life on earth are unlikely. That group includes our children and grandchildren, and the generations that would follow if we were not even now making the planet uninhabitable for human beings in the next 200 years or so.

Whatever changes we must face in our lifestyle and economics, it is but compulsory now to face the dangers of global warming. It will be hard, we shall all change our habits, yes...but that's what it takes to give our children a Earth planet to live in. If we refuse, to keep selfishly our cars and habits to buy and throw away almost anything, we are all lost. No matter what side we vote for.

Unless you want our children and their children's children to suffer, and the world to end quicker than it should, I suggest you put a stop to this! The only way people will help this cause, is if it is ENFORCED. Now get going! I know we can all do it together if we try ^___^
