Show the Candidates the Many Faces of Climate Change

Target: U.S. Presidential Candidates
Sponsored by: 1Sky

The debate is over -- the National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists agree that the planet is warming. Now it's time to make the effects of global warming real for the presidential candidates.

Is global warming putting you and your community at risk for floods or hurricanes? Is it making water more scarce? Sign the petition, and let the presidential candidates know!

After a decade of stalling, we need real leadership on climate change:

  • Job creation in a clean energy economy.
  • A moratorium on building new coal-fired power plants.
  • The reduction of emissions levels in scale with what the science demands.

Tell the candidates what global warming means to your community and tell them to commit to be climate leaders in 2008 and beyond.

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 30,000

Dear [Decision Maker]

The debate is over. The National Academy of Sciences and thousands of scientists worldwide agree that the planet is warming and that human dependence on fossil fuels such as coal and oil is the primary cause. If we do not act quickly and boldly, we will face irreversible and potentially devastating climate change impacts. There is still time to rise to the challenge, but America needs strong leadership to do so.

We need to:

* Create 5 million green jobs, conserving 20% of our energy by 2015.
* Freeze climate pollution levels now and cut at least 80% by 2050 and 25% by 2020.
* No new coal plants that emit global warming pollution. Invest in renewable energy.

Everything is getting way outta hand, global warming- price increases on EVERYTHING- I dont even wanta imagine what type of storms will be produced by this global warming. Sadly though, this country waits to long to do something about issues. We will see something done once its too late.

Drought is hitting us pretty hard in Australia, and it's only going to get worse if nothing is done about global warming. How can you possibly think that we can keep polluting our earth and consuming our resources without there being severe consequences? How can you think that the economy is a more important issue right now? All the money on earth means nothing if there is no earth left, no lush rainforests or beautiful oceans. Sure, you can buy your fancy cars and plasma screen tv's, and go on living your lives as if nothing is wrong. But it will haunt you. When you step outside and see a sky, grey and black with pollution. A sludge-like river, toxic and lifeless. Worst of all, it will be the innocents of the world who suffer - not only the little children, but the millions of animals and plants who have no control over the horrible things we're doing. We have to remember, its your earth or my earth, its our earth. Every living creature depend upon this amazing and delicate speck of blue and green, an oasis in the sea of lifeless space. So how....how can you be so greedy......so heartless. Many People, Many Places, One Heart, One World, One Goal ~To Save It~

There is no issue more important on this planet today than Global Warming. It will affect everyone in many ways and it's effects will be felt for centuries.
