Tell your senators to keep the Supreme Court fair!
The Supreme Court has the final say on whether to uphold and enforce -- or limit and strike down -- the laws that safeguard our nation's air, water, wildlife, and wilderness. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement means our most basic environmental laws may be in jeopardy.
As a mainstream conservative justice, Justice O'Connor often cast the decisive vote in favor of protecting environmental safeguards enjoyed by all Americans. For this reason, the question of who will fill the vacancy created by her departure holds serious consequences for the future of our environment. Given the President's track record of sending the Senate controversial judicial nominees who are outside the mainstream -- like Janice Rogers Brown and William Myers III -- there is good reason to be concerned.
Earthjustice has led the conservation community's efforts to ensure that those confirmed to lifetime judgeships will fairly uphold and enforce legal safeguards and will not be biased in favor of powerful special interests. We know just how hard we must work to preserve the Supreme Court's vital role in protecting the environment -- and we need your help to make it happen.
Please take action TODAY! Tell your senators to make sure the new Supreme Court justice is not biased against laws that protect our environment!
Update: July 19, 2005
President Bush has officially nominated Judge John G. Roberts, Jr. to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court. Given his record on the environment, we have reason for concern. In the coming weeks we will need your continued support as we call on Congress to conduct a thorough investigation of Judge Roberts. Read More.
We signed the “Supreme Court Nominee: Environment Stands to Lose” petition!

We need a new Supreme Court Justice who will uphold and defend laws protecting our planet rather than the profits of exploitative, polluting businesses. As our planet gets more crowded and consumerism more insatiable around the globe, it's imperative that we strengthen environmental protections (not weaken or repeal them!), and become proactive in our approach to sustainability, thriving biodiversity, and the clean, healthy environment necessary to sustaining life on this planet. Without a viable planet, the finer points of Constitutional Law become moot, and the term "pro-life" is meaningless and ironic.

Please comfirm a Moderate Supreme Nominee that is a true moderate that will protect the environment, a woman's right of reproductive choice, worker's rights, civil rights of miniorities and gays, and will not cater to radical right wing extremitist groups like the Christian Coalition. A Moderate Nominee will help create bipartisanship in America and will help prevent our nation from more divideness in times of global terrorism!!!!

The US needs to preserve what natural areas are left. We are cheating ourselves out of clean air and water. Wildlife is declining. Business must not dictate environmental policy

respect the environment, individual rights and freedoms, and base their decisions on what is Constitutionally appropriate as well as in the best interest of humanity. Protections for the environment will better guarantee humanity's continued existence than profit and loss statements. In addition, restrictive right-wing dogma is only appropriate in places of worship, not on our highest court.

Dear Lawmakers! Or should that be Lawbreakers? Unless this world is to become concrete, buildings, plastic, and 100'S of thousands of machines and abusers raping the earth! We better "All start caring about the environment! This earth is the only one we have been given! Or will ever have.We cannot wait until it is too late to think about saving the environment, the land, the water, the wildlife. What's left of it after so many in politics state by state have decided we need to (cull) anything over 100, if even that many! Let's just kill it, build on it, drill on it, sell it, and take and take and take! Giving nothing in return to Mother Earth! The earth belongs to "All" people all over the world......NOT just to politicians and rich people!!! Does no one in Congress want to leave our children, a clean healthy world, with animals, and land, with trees and grass, and clean water and air??? Or are we going to install a great big bubble over the world, and Dictators around the world can all dictate their own little piece of the bubble, including the USA. Or does Congress plan for us to all live underground, after big business has "ruined the air we breathe, and the water we drink, and contaminated our food sources? What then Lawmakers? Is our world going to end up like some really bad Sci-Fi movie? Think about it long and hard......This could really happen! If we do not take care of Mother Earth and "OUR Environment" This is Your WAKE UP CALL CONGRESS! We will all suffer! There are some things in life that cannot be bought.....All of us real working class people know this! We live it every day....How about you Congress. Do you really think you will survive this polluted earth, if we don't!!!!!!!!
You can bet we will survive much longer than you....It's called street smart. And the school of hard-knocks! That being said......We have to protect the Environment Now! Before it's too late...
Creator" Giveth and Creator can taketh"
