President Bush has appointed some real scoundrels over the years, but Elaine Chao has to be one of the worst.
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao has done horrible damage to workers' rights by gutting safety regulations, promoting a big business agenda and undermining workers and their unions at every turn.
The policies she could try to push through as she leaves would take years to undo. But if she thinks no one is watching in her last months in office, she's wrong.

This is 2008! The working regulations and laws should be getting better, not worse. It is so hard to support a family these days on the wages of today. We need a change!

Once upon a time, America had a favorable trade balance, a solid currency and the safest and most highly trained workforce in the world. Sadly none of the above is true any longer. We've wrecked our economy with a war which cannot be won, ruined our balance of trade with treaties which allow American manufacturers to outsource the manufacture of goods to countries without safety and labor regulations - so the labor would be cheaper (P.S., so are the goods - and that NOT in a good way). At home, our labor laws are not defended and provisions and safety measures fought for over decades are being whittled away and not supported by our government. Our dollar has never been weaker and we have outsourced even some of our military contracts! We are no longer a world leader and we have the current administration to blame for greasing the wheels to oblivion.
